Ridiculously long boot times
Every time I start the game and the little rectangle in the middle of the screen pops up, I have to wait 25 minutes for it to actually open the game's window. This would be more tolerable if it didn't crash every hour (two hours if I'm lucky), but having to wait this long to restart the game after it crashes made me quit last time. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it?

If only I'd found this out before, rather than now when I'm already in the Epilogue...
still, turning off Steam saves and the Steam overlay seems to have made it crash less often.

Yeah I once discovered that the KCD.exe had vanished, only to discover that AVG antivirus had locked it up in quarantine/vault so I had to list it as an exception.

This may be the result of a couple things -

Your specs are low, or you're running the game from a slower HDD drive. Hard to say with machine problems as we don't see your specs.

One other possibility is that you have your save games archived in the Steam cloud, which can take a LONG time if you have a poor internet connection as the saves are pretty large and can take a while over slower internet connections - to get around this, disable Steam cloud saves - see https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/68D2-35AB-09A9-7678

My specs are not low, and the game is on an SSD. I don't think this has anything to do with the Steam cloud, since we're talking about booting the game, before the logos pop up and everything, but in any case, since moving redundant saves out of the folder also made me unable to load them, it's clear the game's loading from the disk. My connection isn't poor, either. I'll give your suggestion a try, though.

I've never had this problem in over 1151 hours of game play and my laptop is a potato. Definitely not the fault of the game.

I had the same problem until I disabled Steam Cloud Saves.

Other than that, not in my KCD.

I just timed my loading from my SSD. It took 20 seconds to get to the point where the music starts to play before the video, where I usually hit ESC to skip the video and and about 10 seconds more to give me the game menu. Also I never use Steam Cloud saves and prefer to backup on my HDD or thumb drive.

Thank you all gently for your advice. I disabled the cloud saves and also the Steam overlay (since that helped with Rimworld, I figured it might help here) and the launch time was reduced from a massive 25 minutes to a more tolerable 8 minutes. To be clear, this refers to the time between hitting the 'play' button on Steam and the screen-sized window actually opening, time in which the small window in the middle of the screen saying 'kingdom come deliverance' is open.

With cloud saves i have 55 seconds from hitting start to game menu (with using ESC to skip video). Just moved KCD from M2 SSD to SATA SSD. If i don't hit ESC and wait until in the video the "E" will be shown and pressing then "E" i need then 1min 5sec

Glad you found your answer.

So many so-called 'bugs' can be traced back to an AV program or some other conflict not really related to the game itself.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

My game launches in about a minute (not instantly, by any means) but I am curious as to what you added to the exceptions file in your AV. What was the local address?

Blanket the entire KCD folder with an exception. ((...)steamapps/common/KingdomComeDeliverance)

Ah. Thank you. I thought it might be something like that.

Never thought to mention that since for a long time I have had my entire STEAM game folder white listed with my AV because of issues with other games, glad you figured it out.
