Is it possible to get 100 game meat without poaching?
As per title. This is the patched In God's hands quest for Johanka. I'm already on this quest, so can't put it off till I get permission to hunt.

AFAIK butchers should each have 15 hare meat and some may also have a presumably similar quantity of deer meat, plus there is some with traders, and maybe there is something else that counts as game, like wild fowl?

I'm asking because maybe someone has already tried this and found out that you can't do this by riding around the map from store to store and using Preserver?

Edit: NVM. Dried meat will work, as well as plenty other stuff. You can buy dried meat in huge quantities (30 per seller, who also usually has other meat).

I don't think it even has to be game meat; I think you can use dried meats too. If you want game meat though, leave the monastery and head along the forested road to Samopesh, before you get to the end of the forested part (just past the half way point), turn right and go down the steep bank and you'll find a meadow with a water source which has lots of Roe Dear and Hare.

You don't get in any trouble as long as your don't get stopped and searched so either take only what you need or loot the carcasses until your inventory is full and sell the rest to Miller Simon of Sasau.

Getting permission to hunt in certain areas is specific to a few questlines which can take a while to get to and I might be wrong, but once you start the Johanka side quest it's not a good idea to leave her waiting. I once left her waiting for days or weeks of in-game time, came back and she chastised me because lots of the patients had died.

FWIW... once you become the huntsman of Talmberg, you can hunt game pretty much anywhere and have it on your person and not be stopped for poaching. Leastwise, I never have.

Yeah, the quest is timed, or at least the part about curing specific patients but perhaps even the parts about getting supplies and getting meat.

I just didn't want to poach because the game considers it a crime and you can't just go get permission.

However, I think as Sir Radzig's squire Henry should have no problem getting a one-off permission from Sir Radzig to hunt 100 units of game from Skalitz land for Skalitz wounded, or he could involve Berthold the same way he can talk to the Rattay Executioner.

In Skalitz woods I'm pretty sure he would run into no trouble essentially being the lord's highest representative available to act immediately in a way that's more likely than not to be just what the lord would order if asked. But I'm diggressing.

Anyway, going to butchers was even simpler. My Henry has the Burgher trait — meat comes from the market. ;)

Indeed. I just ended up doing Johanka's quest immediately after Pestilence, which I did as part of Questions and Answers, which I did immediately after Baptism of Fire, out of a certain sense of duty leading me not to stall on Sir Radzig's orders (so still have yet to pick up my Bailiff's Ceremonial Potato Masher from Sir Divish and play Sim City). I prioritized Merhojed, but once I saw the infirmary there was no way I could leave it like that, especially not when my Henry had First Aid (III), Alchemy (18) and Herbalism (20), not to mention a full purse and a way of solving problems.

With Presever the part about 'game' (yeah, any meat seems to work) was doable even by fast travelling

I believe if you do hunt and gather meat, you can simply move the meat to your horses inventory and you won't get into trouble.

Any form of meat will do, dried meat is pretty handy as it doesnt spoil.
And there doesnt seem to be any time limit on the meat part of the quest as I have been at it for at least a month of in game time and no failure so far..

Never had any problem with poaching at all. I gathered tons of game meats and would simply go to the nearest campfire and cook it, not only does it preserve it longer but must remove the stolen tag from it. Then I sold it to the nearest butcher or trader and kept some for myself.

The interesting thing, IIRC, is that if you put a bunch of meat in a chest such as the one at the Sassau Inn or the chest in the little house off the road in Rovna, it won't spoil. I've not put that to hard and deinitive test and left it for any length of time, but that's been my experience.

And yes, cooking meat takes the stolen tag off it.

And BTW, that little house outside of Rovna has sleep and save pallets and a chest where sometimes I will store loot on my way to and from Skalitz. Also respawning chickens and a couple of goulash pots.

FWIW.

I'm playing on Xbox right now and Jesus Christ. I can't deliver the meat unless I have all of it together and it goes bad before I can get a 100.
