Ulrich keeps attacking me - how to fix?

So after I beat Ulrich in our first fight I accidentally tried picking up his sword which he viewed as stealing. Every time I see Ulrich now to try to advance his quest and get info on the counterfeiting or whatever he attacks me and I have to fist fight and smack him around. I've whooped his arse a couple of times now and I've told him to surrender and flee, and let him go but every time I return to him he's itching for a fight. How do I progress this quest at this point? Any way to de-aggro him, or am I screwed?

'Accidentally', right.
In case you won't find a way to deaggro him - you don't need to. You can loot him, kill him, or ignore him, there are other ways to solve this quest.

lol, accidentally in that he dropped his weapons and was 50 yds away getting back on his horse... I assumed picking up the weapons wouldn't be a big deal - but he did not like it. Ok good to know, i'll whoop his ass one more time and then finish him off.

Beat him up in the fist fight, then let him go Disarmed. It should reset his sword issue. Worked for me :D
