Playing as an Alchemist
I’m still really new to the game, and am currently going for a Yeoman build (groundskeeper/ranger). However, the alchemy has me reeeally interested, and the forgeable plants have had me nerding out (I’m a lab tech at an apothecary IRL, and we use all of the plants I’ve found so far).

What I’m wondering, is how viable it could be for someone to play as an alchemist? Roleplay as one anyway. Brew elixirs, pick herbs, sell them, buy some books, study, etc.

Part of what it boils down to for me (pun not intended), is

1. Can we actually make a profit off of elixirs, even after buying the alcohol to make them?

2. Can you get your own house that has an alchemy lab, or do I need to use the one at Rattay? Are there more labs around the map? One that might be suited to a hermit/alchemist?

I’m planning on console spawning in the Charlatans outfit, as that screams hermit/herbalist/alchemist to me, but otherwise I’m not sure what I’ll go for, equipment wise. If I do an alchemist build I’ll definitely stay away from fights. Probably put most of my points into charisma.

But anyway, what are all of your thoughts? Any suggestions?

I’m loving this game so far!

Yes and yes, Buy the ashes DLC rebuild Pribyslavitz. You will get your own lab then. Also a garden to grow them

Craft them and sell them. Thats how I made my money crafting potions in the beginning.
Learning the recipies is not hard once you have crafted them as it appears in the book beside the crafting table. All mastered potions will appear there. It also helps your skills and stats.
Understanding the difference between cooking and destilling them is important.
The savoir schnapps sells for a good price. I made them in Rattay and sold them to the alchemist next door. I made a few video heres some of them. This is before I started rebuilding Pribyslavitz as lots of groeshon needed for that.

The Alchemy system in this game is one of the most confusingly good things in the game. lol.

If OP don't wanna look up guides, most of the good potion recipes are found in Treasure Maps. Aqua Vitaes especially.

Hey maybe you could even take out some bandit camps by poisoning their wine or stew. And never have to fight them.

Making and selling the potions are pure profit if you gather the herbs yourself, you don’t have to buy the alcohols or water you mix them with. Even for some of the more rare herbs that you would prefer to buy rather than find, those potions are worth more so it’s very profitable regardless.

If you’re planning on focusing on archery than alchemy is excellent for you. Combat potions can increase your melee stats when you’re forced into close combat, and poisoned arrows can kill the strongest enemies in the game with relative ease

Alchemy is easily the second most gamebreaking skill in the game, only beat by stealth.

to OP: You certainly can, and as an apothecary, if someone pisses you off you dont have to fight. Just poison his food.
