How do you throw meat to dogs?

For example in the executioner quest, I can't figure out how to give meat to the dogs. I tried dropping it, but doesn't seem to work

Just drop it near them. They will move to it and eat it. I havent tried, but you might be able to apply a potion to the meat before you give it to them.

simply dropping it works, gotta be somewhat close to the dogs. Might be you're dropping meat thats gone off? dunno if that has an effect. If you can't get the dogs to stop barking you can always visit him in the day and if your speech is high enough tell him the Miller sent you. he'll go running to the miller, giving you free reign to loot his house.

I know it's an old thread, but in case any newcomers find this useful - the wiki doesn't specifically say you can't use any meat, but it does say you can drop "raw meat" on the ground, so stuff like dried meat or jerky may not work. And yes, you can apply potions to the meat and the dogs will be affected.

I always just solve the quest by going up to the executioner and ask to buy the ring.
