Die in cast Quest : my gear

So i enetered this Bandit settlement, and now i have my gear taken away, how can i get it back?

♥♥♥♥ if I know... I have like 60 hours into the game, beat the main story... did lots of side quests where my gear was taken away... always managed to get it back... Use your head, think... look around. talk to people... kill everyone with your fists, find a key, find a chest... ♥♥♥♥ if I know.

The gear is in a cotage exactly right from where you are imprisoned (where you met Erik). It is in the trunk. It is locked, but the guard is inside and you can wait for him to come out.

You can, the guard on the rampart(?) has a lockpick. The difficulty is Hard and you only get one lockpick. You can get your gear back anyway after the next mission.
One thing that really annoyed me, I got my full set of platemail back but in the cutscene Henry is only wearing a shirt,,,

I just checked that chest, not all of my gear is inside. Only the weapons, but even those didn't show up when I first opened the chest. At first it wasn't even locked.

Edit: I didn't check this kind of chest from up close before, but now it seems that when the lid opens, there is an another lid underneath that looks the same. It's like 2 chests were spawned at the same place

Edit 2: Ha, it's bugged! I get different inventory contents when I try to open it from different angles
