Sword fighting on pc
OK, the last time I had a sword fight in a game was Port Royal 2. I'm getting my butt handed to me everytime. I'm pretty sure its my lack of understanding with the mouse controll. If i want to attack left, is it a click and hold the button while moving the mouse left? Click, release and move? I try this stuff, but dont get the result i think I'm going to get. I have good FPS so I dont think its a graphic delay.
Thanks for your thoughts....

2. To feint, choose a direction, hold left click down, choose another direction.

3. Right click is a stabbing move if you use a sword, it's a little bit faster than a slash and hits from a bit further away.

My advice is to go to Capt Bernard and train a bit.
Make sure to learn the "Perfect Block" and use that a lot.
Perfect Blocks use no stamina, and if you press block and left or right click at the same time when you get a green icon, you will repost automatically.

Take your time with fights, man.
I got killed by 2 bandits not long ago, I should have run away and picked one of them off with a bow. Seriously, if they're too tough, run away, not worth dying.

Hope you're having fun. :)

On the cursor/frosshairthing in the center of the screen there are red lines to indicate the direction of the attack.

If I got this right from the tutorial, you move and click, and for feinting, you move, press, move and release.

Though I'm failing hard at this because Henry is way too slow.

Maybe it is just the low skill level of Henry.....

Define low, his swordmanship is at least at 8, it's not that high I guess, but not that low either, and I'm only using short swords.

If you're using a longsword start trying to use it without a shield, go back to captain bernard and ask for more training which unlocks new combos and master blocking ripostes. Currently at my level If I make the enemy bleed I win, and against plate its a slog but I can win through master blocks and combos. I didnt start winning most of my fights until defence level 8 and sword level 12

Yeah the game changed a lot for me when I learned that you get a penalty for using a basturd sword with a shield

edit: also training with Captain Bernard

a lot comes into it, it is a skill you have to learn.. your block in relation to their sword position.. timing of block for perfect block, your position itself, faking attacks like holding left click while it being on left side and switching to right as you let go to make them not see the attack coming on that side.. right clicking for different jamps.. moving on an attack as to sidestep it.. so many things come into effect, and as you develop the skill, you will learn combos, and other things.. it is something you will just have to spend some hours on in the training rings, etc.. and pay attention when being tought before you can just have sparing matches.. you can even cancel attacks, and do special, etc.. You are ♥♥♥♥ at everything, and you just have to get better.. like riding a horse, it becomes more stable and you can maneuver better as skill develops.. Same with archery, etc..

Blocking is the same thing. Holding down Q you need to move the mouse around to which side the enemy attack is coming from. The little crosshair will light up red in the direction you're blocking. Same thing with attacking from different directions.

Don't feel bad I've had the same issue, nowhere does it actually tell you how to use the mouse to choose the attack direction, when I try to do it I usually just get hit but after a few sessions with Bernard I've gotten much better.

This ^^ is a really good explanation, thanks for it!

Combat becomes so insanely easy once you figure it out. Just practice, you won't be the best at it right off the bat. Learn combos, timed blocks, and master strikes.

I'm at the point now where the game is WAY too easy. You will get there.

enjoy losing , Im at a point where I cannot be defeated in combat .

At which stage of the game - how early or far into it - does that happen?
