You are the master GOAT.
how the hell did you figure this out and why doesnt everybody use this fix?
So, what I did: I shot an arrow towards Urban but not hitting him. He then followed me as I ran away. As I ran away other guards left the building and I ran through the door as the guards were exiting. I then surrendered inside the building and payed 200 gr. After this I immediately ran to the other door on the ground floor and the cut scene with Kyeser started. After that I will try to proceed with the main quest. I will try to keep away from Urban from now on ;)
aaand 7 years later.. i did this quest last week, exactly the same stuff as above.
why do you need to return the bowl? does it matter in the big scheme of things or just for this dumb quest? i hope it didnt break my game..
i played at release and gave up halfway thru game cos of all the crap u have to deal with, had hoped it would have been sorted by now but seems the biggest challange this game presents is still getting the bloody quests to work.. everything else have been a walk in the park so far
I am just gonna tell you directly:
You don't need to return the bowl.
But it causes a fight with the guard who you showed the bowl in the first place because he "checked" that you didn't return the bowl.
For most players, the fight happens when they return to meet someone in the house during a late game main quest. Since the guard is standing in front of the house, you will get a small reputation loss and the fight starts.
This won't break your game in any shape or form.
Don't bring out your weapon. Simply knock him out using unarmed and he will forget everything once he wakes up.
I had the same problem in my first playthrough. I knocked him out with headcracker perk and he forgot everything and just proceeded with the story.
This is not fully true. As you can read in this thread (and also on reddit), there are a lot of players that will get stuck in an infinite load screen when the fight with Urban starts. It happened to me, too. Since this quest is part of the main quest this infinite loading loop WILL BREAK THE MAIN STORY. You just cannot proceed with this game if you do not find a workaround for avoiding Urban.
I do not know the probability of this infinite loading screen happening but there is a chance that you might encounter it. In this case you will have to find a workaround in order to proceed the main story.
I mean go at night. Lockpick the door and kill the guard.
Or just kill him from afar with a poisoned arrow.
Took me 10 second to find two workaround.
Im doing the house of god quest as well so I just walked down there, took the bowl, showed it to the guard, and then put it right back.
It breaks if you take too long to return it. I myself simply forgot about it completely. Didn't realize it at all till the guard said it. By then, the bug happened and I knocked him out.
yesterday i did that robber baron quest and wasted all evening trying to get it function.. they could have fixed this crap by now
