How to kill the chickens?

I found out that I could kill the chicken's with my longword, but not with my bow.

i have killed several chickens by bashing them with a polearm

But when I travel to another places, the chickens at the new location is invulenarable again.

lol... punched a chicken yesterday while playing... *splat*... OMG... it rolled DOWN a hill, hit another chicken and killed THAT one too... LOL

I have found the hitboxes on animals to be finnicky, but you can one-hit punch the chickens into an explosion of feathers. Dogs you only seem to be able to punch in the face, cows and pigs in the face and in the rump. I'm not the interested in killing the animals, but they do make nice unarmed training at night when nobody is looking.

I find dogs and pigs are some easier targets. Meanwhile, all these beatings helps you level up stats, quite helpful.
