Why not follow the main quest in your quest log?
If you want to skip the main quest and get back to the 2nd castle (Talmburg), you can just walk back there (or maybe fast travel).
Doing so will put "quest giver" markers on your map, if there are any available in the local area at that time.
And as the story and time progress, more side quests and activities will emerge.
I win the trust of the upper class with charm, and then steal whatever I can carry as I take off into the night.
My Henry has learnt the art of Stealth, and with just a Dagger can clear out a camp of Bandits under the night moon....for the right price.
The getting back to the castle is just a way to stop you falling off the edge of the game world. You can't even talk to Radwig.
To get cash find the ancient treasures and sell it. Or loot dead bodies that you find. Get your strength up by picking flowers so you can carry the load if your Hencry is a puny weakling like mine.
Starting armor and weapon will be given to you in a main quest, and it's enough for a long while (for the first few battles, you can ask allies to help you so you shouldn't have any problems).
I highly encourage you to keep on an honest path. It seems the game was designed and prices are balanced with what you earn through quests. You might not have full plate armor like some people have right from the beginning, but you'll be able to slowly equip yourself.
In my own game, I've recently upgraded from a wooden club to a sword, and started getting pieces of chainmail, and it feels like a very rewarding progression. Don't despair!
You can be honest, but it will usually cost you.
Knowing that, it is best to always accumulate savings and some spares. Then you can wisely and comfortably play.
Through most of the game I bought my way out instead of stealing (unless a official gives me permission to bend rules).
My only regret is cheating on theresa (even though I haven't gone a date with her yet).
