Bookstore? Or are books best bought from random vendors?
I know the armoursmith might have a book about repair, but is there anywhere that sells books specifically?

Scribes are pretty good for buying books. Some places have books to steal.

Some people with skills will carry the respective skill book, for example a herbalist might sell a herbalist book.

Thanks, I robbed the Scribe in Rattay after I realized he wouldn't sell me books, and I was disappointed that he had no books on him at all. All in all he only had a few history books on his shelves and a treasure map in his study, boo!

Could you tell me where the scribe in Tamberg is? I may have found him. Just can't think of where he might be.

Edit: nevermind. I remember. Second floor. I think he tells me to get out whenever I enter. Won't sell. I'll try again

You can also steal books from bookshelves. Although they aren't skillbooks, they still raise your speech skill. You don't have to spend time reading them. Just open and either read them yourself for the lore, or flip the pages and get some reading skill. Scribes sell these as well.
