Ugh. Really enjoying the content of this game so far, but it's making it pretty painful technincally thus far. Can't practice lock picking because the Miller/practice chest is bugged. Can't move on in an alternate path because the executioner convnersation is bugged.
I guess I'll just reload to before the trek up to the executioner and move on for now (already did practice fighting and am supposed to report to bailf). Does this quest have a time limit? Does it get better or are lots of quests broken like this?
I also can't learn to lock pick because the Miller chest isn't working as a practice chest (lock pick breaks on every failure) and then he will not speak to me again after I use them all up.
Ah well in the tutorial you could have learned to lockpick as well if you decided to do the sneaky approach when getting your fathers tools back.
But it's strange that there wasn't an option to accept the offer to buy the ring.
You can always start a new play through, grab the 4 free lockpicks and then practice in the starting area. I'm 49 with very poor eyesight, yet I find the lock picking very easy after an initial few practice sessions.
Or just use easy lockpicking, that removes the minigame.
Or, you know. Do it like I did. Send him out of his house, hide behind the door in the kitchen, wait until night, knock him out in his bed. Steal his key. :)
pay the man 15 after using speech skill.
Hopefully the devs will improve the lockpicking minigame soon, because its far too awkward and frustrating.
I lingered too long in his house and he fought me. I beat him up then let him go, but no option to extract the ring/key from him at that point and now everybody hates me in town.
I guess for now I'm just going to reload to before this all started and skip the whole thief quest line. Pretty annoying that literally the first quest you are given post-prologue is so easily broken in multiple places, does not bode well for the rest.
Why bother responding if you don't read a single post in the thread? A bunch of people have reported this in the bug thread too. For some people, after the executioner aagrees to sell you the ring, Henry immediately responds "not interested", the conversation ends, and you can no longer initiate any dialog with him.
Regardless of your lock picking prowess, the training chest is bugged. It's not supposed to break lock picks, but it does. And if you fail and break all of your lock picks, the Miller will no longer speak to you, he just stands there.
