In all honesty the developers will probably be making more changes to the combat system. I like the combat in this game because it isn't a blind hack' n' slash but there needs to be modifications to it.
Well enemies fall from 2-3 hits even if you have a crappy sword. No need in combos, you can just right-click most of enemies. Mounted bows are safer option indeed, but it takes much longer than just entering camp and randomly right-clicking enemies to death within a few seconds,
I counted out attempting the combo move 100 times against the guy and was only sucessful 4 times. All the other times were either parried, masterstiked, or just plain kicked/pulled around.
Then that means that the random bandit outside the camp is better than a level 14 PC with 15 in sword master. My issue is that it isnt about skill since the AI decides when and how its going to ignore your attacks with no regard to where or how your actually attacking. The main ways to mitigate such things is to just wear heavy armor and abuse master strokes yourself or any of the other cheesing tactics.
The reason why I hate this so much is because it forces me to abuse the flaws in its mechanics, rather than learning combos and how to deal with different stances and numbers. It's just masterstroke and win.
Get close and use F to knock them off balance and then you can attack and set up your combos.
How's that "cheesing"? I can kill anyone just by RMB without any fancy technics, so why bother myself with it?
Oh, you say "dev intended you to learn combos"? Well, I don't care about the devs, right-clicking enemies to death and watching them begging for mercy is fine enough to me.
Those have their own issues, with the AI being able to see near perfect in the dark unless you have stealth +10 and archery taking ages to level up while being so ♥♥♥♥ initialy that its not worth sniping. From what I've been told and seen, the best way to use a bow is to just back up while being chased and shoot them at point blank range.
