[solved] Cannot talk to Karl

In the quest where yo uhave to get into the monastery, there's a guy named Karl that you have to speak to. I can't talk to him.... Well, I can, but after I ask him if he's karl and he says that he is and I say that I've bee nmeaning to talk to him, the conversation ends and the option to "talk" is no longer there.

Edit: So I sovled this and got past this part, but the quest is effed up and the developers should fix this. I was trying to talk to karl in the night when he's outside alone drinking and the guardian is sleeping. The quest froze because they weren't together when I tried to speak to karl. So I tried during the day when they sat together aand I got further along, but my woes weren't past me. I had better charisma than the guardian, but he wouldn't believe me. I stole his clothes while he slept and his charisma didn't go down. my speech was 1 lower than his, so I couldn't convince him to drink. I got drunk myself and then sometimes he would believe me and want to play dice, but I am convinced that he's cheating. If I had a recording of all the games I played with him, he would get VAC banned! ... sooo... even drunk, he wouldn't be convinced to drink all the time, so I tried to move time forward a bit..... and then he jsut walked out the tavern and left karl alone and "I succeeded in getting the guardian to leave" ... so finaly, why couldn't I speak to him at night, when the guardian was sleeping? .. anyway... I spent far too long trying to get past this one point in the game.. I have less trouble taking out a group of 6 bandits singlehandedly.....

Yeah .... i was on the same problem, i fix it pickpocketing Karl and then the talk option showed up. The diference in the dices was that i was the one getting 1k in the first, then he lost, then i get 1.5k 😎 ... and then he got five 1 ... getting 4k .... and i lose ..................

Edit: Besides i said "pickpocketing" probably the fix is just waiting one day and you can talk with Karl only when he is sitted with the guard

Another tip, if you cant fix the bug, you can steal the papers in the chest bypassing all of this
