Why does some armor have a black ink spot in bottom left corner?

Title says it all - why does certain pieces of armor have a black ink spot in the bottom left corner of the items thumbnail picture? The same place where the stolen icon appears. Thanks

It's dirty.

You can partially remove dirt from your armor by washing at a barrel with rainwater (they are frequent enough in the villages), and you can be thoroughly cleaned only in the bathhouse.

It means that the armor is dirty. You can and should clean yourself at tubs (or bathhouses) regularly, as it decreases your charisma and stealth.

It's dirty and can only be fully cleaned at a bathouse, by choosing the first, second, and maybe the last option (doing "stuff" with a bathhouse wench, not sure if that cleans armor though).

Yeah, having "full" service gets your helmet polished as well, not sure about healing.
