Killed a Mercenary in a duel

The mercenary was like "hey let's duel for practice. Wager 50 Groschen." and then I fought him, won, and he died. It wasn't like he was surrendering but my next attack was already queued up so I swung. He just took a hit and died.

Is there something I didn't understand about "let's have a friendly duel for practice?" Why was it a fight to the death? Why didn't he surrender?

Least you got to that. when I fought one I was beating him and then suddenly three random bandits pop up and interfere. I kill one and it sends the other two running but the merc acts like he won and took my money.

Hehe I've seen that where the challenges are Not at your level and just get slaughtered.

They need to buff his hitpoints. I one-shot him with a master-strike from St. George's Sword.

I occasionally kill both knights and merc you meet. Looks like sometimes you do an overkill past the point when they are supposed to surrender. Does not matter, they are immortal, and will spawn again. Btw my 'honorable knight' is now bugged and trying to talk to him fails when I meet him now. Duh.

I had an instance like this before. It was sad, I felt bad and cried a little. The duel started, he swung at me, a did a perfect riposte, and the riposte killed him in one hit. I had 20 strength.. I feel traumatized.
