Looting dead animals you've killed is stealing?
Hi, I was doing a quest called "The Prey" and for the 2nd part of then quest you have to hunt as many hares as possible before noon with Sir Hans. What I notice after I DO manage to kill a rabbit the icon to loot the stuff is called "steal". (So Im basically stealing my own loot that I've killed.)

To see if the items I did loot has the "stolen" icon next to it, I went into my inventory and come to find out it had the stolen icon next to it.

Is this a bug or something?

I haven't done this quest myself and I'm talking out my ass, but is it possible you're poaching game you don't have a right to?

This is not a bug. Poaching (Hunting of deer and boars) was forbidden in the medieval ages and only for Kings and Lords to hunt. So if you go and Hunt it's considered "poaching" which is an illegal act and was usually rewarded with having your hands cut off

Everything is stealing in this game. Pulling loot off of corpses, human or otherwise is stealing, even pulling gear from a chest that someone gives you permission to take from is stealing. Seems legit.

Does it really matter. The game world is all land is owned by the warlords. Anyone caught hunting would be treated as a criminal. At that time you'd probably have been executed. In terms of this mission. You're a peasant so if a soldier caught you with game he'd assume you'd knicked it. Then your speech strength comes into play. Can I convince a guard otherwise.

Like posters #1 and #2 said you are poaching, that is illegal.

Doesn't matter if you take someones stuff from their home or from their dead bodies, It's stealing.

that's just wrong. Pulling loot of corpses you killed and are justified to kill (Bandits, Cumans and so on) is legal. Murdering villagers or looting corpses of enemies you didn't kill is illegal.

Back then, all things in the land belonged to the king, and whomever the king selected as their regents (Lords, i.e. Hanush, Divish, etc). Killing any animal was considered poaching. Only the official huntsman, game master or anyone the nobility deemed allowed could do so.

Technically isn't it called corpse looting or something?
ReDragonInc Feb 17, 2018 @ 7:13pm
That was just called theft. Because any property on the deceased automatically belonged to someone else (Depending on who it was).

Not relevant for this quest, but good info for later. If you cook any of the meat you get from poached animals, it is no longer flagged as stolen(and it spoils slower and sells for more).

I take it you guys haven't done the quest?.. anyways, I also so that some of my looted animal meets did not have the "stolen" icon next to it but most of the meat, the recovered arrows did..

Actually in the case of this quest I think it is a bug.... you are after all hunting with the rightful Lord of Rattay with his permission. Other than this quest however I agree.

I wonder how they know a fish is stolen, do they go to the rivers and make friends with the fish? LOL
@xaker89 Feb 17, 2018 @ 7:20pm
Just cook it on fire
ReDragonInc Feb 17, 2018 @ 7:26pm
Yeah, the problem with that quest is it doesn't deflag animals as poached.
