How to consistently pull off combos?
Hey guys, loving the game and the combat.

There is just one thing that is bothering me but it might be due to me missing some key mechanic.

The combo special attacks that you unlock with experience look great and are awesome to pull off, only, I find it extremely difficult and a very rare occurrence indeed.

Main problem being, every opponent from skilled knights to brigands is constantly pulling off parries which totally break combo moves. Getting to the third or sometimes fourth strike unopposed to finish the move is so hard, for me at least, that I believe there might be a problem in that system.

Please tell me your experience with the special combo attacks and if I am missing something.

Thanks

your skills are too low. go to bernard and train to level 10 swordsmanship. If you are skilled enough you can pull the combos off even when they are parrying. Mix it up too if ones not working try another combo.

Perhaps I used the wrong term, it is not normal blocks (parries?) that interrupt the chain combo but "perfect blocks", I guess is the correct term. Those that completely throw off your stance so there is no way to continue the combo, to be clear.

bernard will teach you how to do those, master stikes i believe they are called.

Feint, continue blocking while they waste a lot of energy, counter-hit them into a combo.

The 3-move combos are far easier to pull off which is why I like shortsword better than long sword.

Just riposte aka master strike.
Best thing in the game.

Hey, there are combos that require stab. Do you have to perform a stab aimed at center (small dot) or any stab will do?
I tried a lot to perform a double stab combo (left slash-right slash-stab-stab) in it just doesnt seem to work.

Enemies can parry you mid combo, which is why they are hard.

Yup, resets the entire thing.
You pretty much only consistently combo against low skill enemies anyway, so don't bother. Just ripost an aim for the head.

How does he train you to 10? The options for training go away after used and only give me a single level. And he, as well as no one else I can find, will not spar with me.

Raising my combat stats has been completely regulated to hunting down bandits and fighting them.

Of course they can but they seem to pull off those perfect blocks almost 1 out of 3 normal - standard - slashes or stabs. That is why I am finding it so hard to pull off 3/4 strikes combos.

Also, if I understood correctly perfect blocks are stamina-free so even if you manage to tire your opponent first he could still do it?

It's just a stab. You just need to time it right. Slashes are specific though.

The repostes are quite low damage, so with decent armor you wont take any damage from them.

Havn't encountered anything that survives two ripostes anymore. WIth the perfect head hits you also consistently trigger the knockout perk, so sometimes just one hit.

Maybe i should try it without a shield, because i remember a few times i land 4 necessary hits without interruptions :steamfacepalm:

And I've noticed with some enemies it's just a battle of chaining perfect blocks and counter attacks. I fought a bandit leader last night that was a fight like that. After about 5 minutes of us barely touching each other I got fed up and just shot him with a bow.
