Merchants and their chests [Game-breaking experience/Spoiler?]
I'm sorry if that has already been discovered and discussed, but I've recently realised that all the merchants (or at least most of them) have a chest in their shops with all the items they sell to you, so you can simply take them from these chests...
I've discovered it when I saw how expensive alchemy recipes were and decided to check the merchant's house for some free ones, and then it turned out to be the same with a horse-trader

The chests don't even have [very hard] locks, they're on [easy]! Is that is how it was supposed to be? Guess I won't be buying anything in the game anymore...

The apothecary? I've been grinding lock picking specifically to get into that guy's chest, its a "very Hard" for me. Some other merchants are easier though.

so far as i noticed you need at least lvl15 in lockbreaking to open chests that contain the traders inventory.
although there may be some exceptions.

Nah, not the apothecary, just some witch in the woods. I am yet to check whether it works on everyone, but being able to steal witch's recipes and horse trader's merchandise is already pretty big.

Thanks, i wondered about that limit (very hard chests instantly breaking my picks)

Its not so big as I've found, stealing may be easy, but selling that stuff is hard, even if a merchant will buy is, they will want it for less than half price.

I only have level 8 and the 2 chests that I've checked were easy. There are often multiple chests in shops, so be sure to check those. Also, the ones I've mentioned were outside of big cities, so this may be a factor as well.

Just leave stolen stuff in your chest. They forget after a few days it was stolen (stolen property disappears)

That's still a lot of money that can be made out of thin air - e.g. spurs.
And you don't even have to sell the items - you can just equip them, so that's some sweet items early on

Are you serious?

BTW, where exactly if my chest? I've encounted no chest labelled as special.

Yes, i'm serious. The more expensive the item, the longer it takes. Your chest is at the miller and everywhere you get permanent lodgings (bed icon on map). For convenience, you can access this place from any bed icon location.

As far as I know, you have your chest in every room you can rent to stay at. The items go to some sort of inter-dimensional pocket, so you can access them from different chests in every lodging. If you don't want to risk leaving your items in some random chests, the one next to your bed back at the mill is one of them.
