Beating Captain Bernard in a training fight

It kinda leaves one unsatisfied. I mean it feels good to beat him, did it unarmed and armed in the real weapon training (real weapon training unarmed doesn't make much sense but hey) and after you leave the arena, nothing. Bernard just walks back to his spot, not a scratch on him, no comment on you winning, just nothing. Wished there was some kind of reward, a show of respect from Bernard would be enough for me, would feel great.

how do you beat him? i just get destroyed, he parrys all my attacks and never time to get a combo on him

Perfect blocks, feints, combos. Makes it easier if you are skilled enough in whatever weapon you use. Also good stats help.

I was also sad that there was not a single comment after beating him :(

yeah gotta improve those stats. I do good against him but im not good enough to beat him yet, he's a BA.

He is quite tough but it was more about to be really patient. He is insanely good at countering anything you throw at him so waiting for him to attack helps

I was also funny to beat him with practice weapons. Didnt manage to do that except with bastard sword but I really wish there was something happening after you beat him. After all he trashtalks you in the beginning so he could show at least some respect (worked hard and long to actually manage it with practice weapon) :D

yeah too bad there is no reward. A funny bug happend when I was sparing him. He swung from below and uppercutted me literally 50 feet in the air lol. BEAST

Maybe it's a weapon thing. I only had 3 real combat fights with him till now, Shortsword, unarmed and Bastardsword. With the Bastardsword he destroyed me, the other two were easier. Especially unarmed since there is no counter from a perfect block

Nevermind, I simply destroy everything and everyone.. it was just cause my skills were too low now it's all too easy :(

Combo of player and henry skill I think. Just beat him myself with 2h swords and mace & shield. Best method is to riposte his attacks. Attacking him directly works ok with mace but with swords he is so good at countering he usuing follows up with a 4 hit combo, best to let him attack you, riposte then stab while he recovers. Rinse, repeat

i beat him with mace and shield at mase lvl 5. held shield button and "W" key and spammed poke. once in a while a regular an LMB attack. just like i play street fighter and mortal combat lol. hope this crappy exploit dont work on cumans

i agree, beating bernard is pretty underwhelming. imo he should give henry some nice weapon/armor piece as a reward.

and generally i don't care about achievements, but at least an achievement like "scholar beats master" or something alike would have made sense.

I'm sorry to boast, but I just manage to beat Bernard in hardcore at real weapon training with a longsword while being naked (as much naked as the game allows), without armor or clothes.

Amen my dude!
Not seen a bigger skidmark of a protagonist since Fallout 4, I can't stand his face and voice, but I'm trying my best to look past that for Kingdom Come.
Learnt yesterday that there were barbers in the game that lets you change things around, so I'm checking that tonight.
