Archery Contest XP?

First, just want to say loving the game! I haven't come across a game this engrossing and immersive in a *long* time. With that said, I've been grinding the archery contests to try to get to bow level 2, and while I've made a ton of money, my bow skill hasn't gone up any. I've also tried shooting at the targets outside of the contests, and just recollecting my training arrows. Does shooting at the bow targets in/out of the contests give you XP? Or do you have to shoot at live targets? I know I leveled my bow during the hunting quest, so bunnies give XP, at least.

Must be nice. Every time I do a contest, I win first time. On all levels.. then if I try again on any of them the game bugs out. One of the archers just stands there and doesn’t shoot. Causes me to fail because I eventually move because I get tired of waiting on him. Would love to be able to grind money doing this because I’m good at it.

Yeah, kinda stupid it doesn't give you any exp. Best bet is to just shoot wildlife in the forest. It's easy and levelss you up relatively fast.

Go poaching, it will increase archery and hunting pretty fast

Yup archery contests are for money, poaching is for xp.

You should also play the chumps game if you find the regular archery to easy. You can start it at Ledetchko with an npc who stands by the archery range. The game is trying to shoot logs while they float down the stream.

Ah, makes sense. Guess I'll have to do some poaching. ZeroLinkTry, that bug happens to me sometimes too. There's a workaround: when you're done shooting all your arrows, press Y and wait for two hours. The contest will be over, and the winnings will be in your inventory.

Yeah, I agree that the contests should give some XP. Maybe only if you're doing a level appropriate contest, and maybe at a reduced rate.

Archery contest really should give bow / agility XP. The same way you're useless in melee before the combat training, trying to kill with a bow before levelling a few times is nearly impossible.

I'm trying to figure out whether the bug that causes a single NPC contestant to refuse to fire is somehow caused by mods (mostly UI right now, but maybe expanded halberds messed something up?) or happens in vanilla.

The bug isn't related to Mods - had it myself once and i'm not using any mods.
