Selling a horse, or having several?

So, I found some bandits camped outside a mine. They had a horse outside, and taking it isn't labelled as stealing it. I already have Pebbles, but I figured I'd mount up on this one and see if I could trade up for something better.

Mounting up on it doesn't change my horse in my horse screen. Is there any way to see this horse's stats, make it my active horse, or otherwise.. use it? Can I take it somewhere and sell it? Can I just go park it at the mill and let it stand there and look pretty?

It seems a terrible waste to just leave a perfectly good horse standing around in the woods.. but I can't seem to find any mechanism by which I can do anything with it other than temporarily riding it.

No, you can only own one horse. If you buy a new horse it trades in your old one.

After clearing out a bandit camp I walked up to their horse and the only option I had was Stampede, so I pressed x and watched it run away.

A bandit camp horse is not an ownable horse. If you leave it for any significant amount of time, it will return to the camp. You cannot whistle to summon it, you cannot tack it, you cannot store on it.

You can kill it, take it's meat, and sell it.

If you get on the side, I was able to get on with x. Also had option to stampede.

you can sell the horse which you have bought not you have found. if you buying new one you got option to drop news price by trading old one. though its not full price of old horse. only a portion.

godbless its not allowed to sell random horses you found. otherwise farming gold d be even easier than already easy methods.

I too found and stole the horse from the bandits' camp and rode it to Theresa's mill. I parked it there, thinking it would go away, but nothing, it's still there waiting for me. I haven't tried to sell it yet.

While this is a necro post, i'll bite.

Since it is not an "ownable" horse, you cannot sell it, nor can you put a saddle, etc. on it.

Yeah steal the horse and begin riding for the nomad camp west. You cannot get off the horse or it will run so you have to ride all the way there - then you can sell it or “trade up”
