it is MUCH more forgiving with blocks, and will sometimes block even if you dont hit Q. but ive found that Masterstrokes are MUCH harder to pull off with a sheild equipped. not sure if its intentional or not, just what ive noticed.

also if you just hold Q down while walking at an archer it will hold your sheild up to block arrows

A shield will block AND deflect in the direction that it's currently at, no matter if you do a normal block or perfect block, so try and mimic the opponents attack direction and you won't have to press "q" and the enemy will always be open and unable to counter block (unless with master strike) anything that isn't to the head.

Protip: Bind block to side mouse button ( if you have any)

Way better imo.
