Why is there no armor or weapon crafting?

Probably the historical accuracy angle they are going with. It would take you months to craft plate armor and a year to make chain mail.

There is weapon sharpening. Just wait for the DLCs or mods.

As stated above history...even a master craftsman would spend a great deal of time making even a small common bit of armor, I'm sure any idiot could take some bailing wire and close a hole in some chainmail but it would never be 100% I think thats why we have armor repair kits in the game. I for one love this system, a refreshing change from the fantasy games we are used to.
Embrace a new era of gaming...or go back and play the same old generic crap in Skyrim.

I thought it was funny that Henry was a blacksmith's apprentice, and there was no blacksmithing.

True, but an apprentice was nothing more than unpaid labor who kept the fire stoked and carried heavy stuff around lol.
By the look of it ole Hank was a slacker who spent his time drinking and squeezing boobs so he probably never learned how to make those cute little metal rings that make up a chainmail shirt.

^ This guy gets it. Simple hand tools (of low quality) take a full day or more to make. In this game you're a nobody with no skills and time is of the essense almost always. You're not making yourself a shiny new helmet with gold trimmings, boy.

Even though we don't see him do that much i'm sure his father wanted him to become a blacksmith too. So he probably taught him more than a normal apprentice while he was growing up.

Again, very true but I get the impression Henry was a moron...
It's up to the player to turn Henry's life around and make him a somebody...

smithing is cut content, it was going to be added but the devs decided it would of been too complex a system and they couldn't potray it historically

Makes sense, who wants to grind game hours away interlinking chainmail rings? You know thats an art form with many different patterns...and making armor like they do in Bethesda games is, well not very realistic.

Fair enough on all points :(

Could still be nice to have a system like Skyrim AT LEAST for some of those PRICEY weapons and armor

I mean “new era”, well if that were the case we’d have an advanced smithing concept in game. I never mentioned combat on this. Only smithing, which there is none of. Regarding Skyrim, at least we could make weapons

I usually steal them now or loot from bandits

I like that there is no crafting. Crafting in games is boring as hell.

I'm thinking most if not all of that cut content will make its way back into the game at some point, maybe they will come up with a useable smithing system.

I hope so.
Combat is really good with its flaws, when they polish it it’ll be great so I hope we see some epic stuff
