Idk, I leveled up most of my maintenance skill thanks to armour damage from training. Of course, it's not exactly cheap to do so but considering there's not much use for money once players are jacked up with the best gear, I'd say it's worth it.
It is with a balancing weapon so it does not matter from matrial she is it depends on her weight.
In addition, during my practice I often have other wood weapons injured but not so strong.
And you also hurt the instructor with it.
I practiced maces with perpetual attacks.
So this exercise takes only 3 4 min. I have from Mace 5 to 18 in 30 min business.
And also get defense strength stamina and fight.
Googel translator.
But it is a problem training up Mace with Bernard, I agree. Having already leveled sword and being high in most skills, the problem for me has become how to keep Bernard alive for a decent-length levelling session. If I train the way I do with sword/axe, then he's out in a couple of hits.
Best I've come up with is to just clinch repeatedly with the right-click stab attack. That eventually takes him out too, but at least the fight lasts longer. Sometimes he does get a lucky smack in...nothing a marigold potion can't handle. Marigolds and nettles are free, they grow profusely everywhere, so that's no issue.
Still, the mace training is slow going.
For a lower-level Henry, yeah, trying to train up other skills too with Mace as first weapon...pretty much a non-starter. I do feel like, however, Bernard doesn't seem quite as good with an axe as he is with the swords. And not just because he's become pretty easy regardless with my Henry's high level...even now he's still trickier and faster with swords than he is with axe. So maybe going with axe at low level might be a little bit easier (or maybe not...not claiming this as fact, just a probably-erroneous impression).
It's probably just because the axe is inherently a slower weapon, but even so, might make timing of the dodges, blocks, master strikes, etc, a little easier for newb Henry.
I've trained with practice axes, and even though axes can do pretty good blunt damage, the practice ax Bernard has doesn't damage me.
First off, I train naked, so gear doesn't fit into it.
I can train almost endlessly with long sword or Halberd with Bernard, no detectable injury, serious wound/trauma, or bleeding, w/o gear.
Train with mace, and if you attack at all, 80% chance he counters with unblockable multi move combo that will cause damage, two or three in a row and you have multiple severe crippling injuries and unstoppable brain bleeding.
Wear any gear at all and he shreds it to pieces, all layers.
Other training I can go until I'm tired or hungry.
Training mace with Bernard rarely lasts more than ten minutes before its off to the baths for tampons to stuff in my bleeding ears and more personal orifices.
Preparatory Aqua Vitalis and Lazarus help extend training naked with mace, significantly. Made me learn alchemy.
His hand to hand has some kick to it too, but not like the mace.
Can't train mace that much as he either destroys you or you destroy him.
