So... what's the big FPS killer in this game?
GTX 1080
i7 4790K
16GB RAM

Struggling to get even 45 FPS in 1080p in the starting village. Turned down Shadows to high, and Texture quality to Very High, and it's still killing my FPS. Anyone figure it out yet?

I set everything to ultra preset then dropped lighting to very high, and shader quality, shadows and volumetric effects detail to high. I typically get frame rates in the 70s-80s most of the time but it can still struggle with multiple torches at night.

Optimizing it with Nvidia GeForce Experience might work well too although my optimization settings by default put draw distance at minimum. I get 90-120fps average with these settings from Nvidia:

Object Quality, Game Effects, Lighting, Particles: VERY HIGH
Physics, Post-Process Quality, Shader Quality: HIGH
Shadows, Textures: MEDIUM
Water Detail, Volumetric Effects Detail, Vegetation Detail: HIGH
Object Distance, LOD Distance, Vegetation Draw Distance: 5% (1 bar)
Motion Blur: OBJECT

I made a video about it yesterday if anyone cares to check it out:

Hope this helps.
Fantastic game... looking forward to some patches though :)

yup .. i have a 1440p screen too, but for this game i rather play on 1080p since it really ups my fps a lot. then just install reshade lumasharpen to correct the bluriness a bit, and voila, game running at 100fps (1070 here) (not in rattay ofcourse, that area just runs like ♥♥♥♥ on every computer)

also, set shadows on medium and don't take ultra for everything ... to me fps > quality

I get some serious drops when near cooking pots, that also seems to have an audio issue with static pops.

++++++++++++ PERFORMANCE GUIDE ++++++++++++++

Shaders - this is a very heavy option. Put on medium or low.
Shadows - this is a very heavy option. Put on medium or low.
Lighting - this is a very heavy option. Put on medium or low.

Resolution: put on 1440p or lower, preferably 1080p or lower.
V-sync: disable V-sync by putting r_Vsync = 0 in user.cfg
Window mode: Fullscreen

Other settings: you can put the other settings on Medium/High/Very High/Ultra according to your specs.

Follow this guide and the game will run great!

I forgot to mention that I did all my experimenting in 1440p

Yeah, I have some pretty big FPS problems...

Every few seconds my FPS go down to 10 - 15 fps, then back up to around 40 - 50, then back down. So the game is stutter free for a few seconds, sometimes longer, sometimes shorter, then stutters extremely.

It happens especially often when I look around or when a lot happens, but also just by standing. It also gets worse in Towns with lots of NPC, but it also happens deep in the forest.

This makes fighting pretty much impossible, since of course, in fights it happens even more often making it hard to properly block, dodge and perform combos.

This happens on every setting. On the lowest, it happens less often, but still annoyingly often.

I am using Geforce Experience, and the program shows me the optimal setting is High. However, even if I use these settings, I have the above problem.

I have a GTX 1080, 16 GB Ram, AMD FX-8350.

Don't use the graphics quality presets in the game settings, let GeForce Experience configure it for optimal performance

I use Geforce Experience, but even when I use it to optimize the game I have these fps issues...

The only setting that made a massive difference for me on a 1080 was shadows, put shadows on medium and everything else on ultra and it never goes below 55 even in the worst spots.

It sounds like maybe you have some background processes running that are sucking up resources. Google Chrome for some reason uses tons of ram, close that if you have it running. If you are running windows 10 you can ctrl+alt+delete and bring up your task manager which will show you what processes are using what resources. See if you can identify one that is using a lot of cpu or gpu resources. Don't just go ending tasks though unless you know what they are. If you find something that's sucking up cpu or gpu power you can google it and see what it is.

OH... and make sure you are running the game in FULLSCREEN. Even if you set it to fullscreen it switches back to borderless anytime you alt+tab or minimize the game window. Super annoying. But that should help you too.
Hey guys, i have played long and all was fine (expect fps drops) but now i have a weird glitch on exeterior parts of objects. Its really heavy pixelated and i dont know why the hell this happen.

This probably explain better. I have seen guy that told me about same issue, but it was some time ago. Can anyone helps?

shadows, shaders and distance loading bars are most demanding ones. others you can max probably. i have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pc and i run this game ~60fps 1080p, with everything on high except those 2 mentioned. also dont forget to open console and type in r_Vsync 0 every time you play, that removed all my lags and stutters.

shadows and object distance are fps killer

Was one of my first thought, but no, even when I freshly start my PC and stop every non-essential process, the problem persists.

According to Windows Task Manager, neither my Ram nor the CPU usage is completely being used even when the stuttering happens.
