How do you skin animals?

I unlocked the Tanner skill from Hunting. I don't see any option to skin the animal and it doesn't appear in the loot window. Equiping a Hunting sword doesn't seem to work either. Does someone know how it works?

iirc You need to have a dagger in your inventory.

That's odd. I definitely have the same setup as you do and have had skins on successful hunts. There was one rabbit that didn't drop its hide. Bug, or some kind of percentage as to whether it'll drop or not?

Ok it looks like it was a bug. I dropped my dagger and picked it up again, now it seems to work.

So if someone can't get the skin to drop try to put your knife somewhere else (horse/chest/ground)

I think it might be a chance based on your hunting skill. When I first got that perk it gave me a hide about half the time. Now I get one every time it seems.

I've never carried a dagger either.

Also you cant skin animals with gloves on, so if you're still wearing your Gauntlets pop them off, make sure you've got a dagger in your inventory and you should be good to go.

No dagger needed. and not always you get a skin.
And....TT Vulture...don`t tell to take gauntlets off....they will find the fingerprints and........jail ^^

What Kuddel said. You don't get skins, antlers, teeth or offal every time. Although I think I've always gotten antlers from bucks.

Not true. I have had rings on through every playthrough, wearing them does not affect skin drops.
