What do you want to build is the question?
Because you get Skillpoints in things you do, you can only level in them, if you do this thing.
For example. If you pickpocket often, you get better at it.
So what do you wanna be?

Mule was a no brainer as soon as a got a skill point in strength. I think I also took the skill so that block used 30% less stamina.

Personally I've found the clinch master to be a bit broken, as you can just walk into enemies repeatedly to knock them off balance and score free hits on them.

the leveling system is similar to that of Oblivion. You get better in what you use, and also gain perks along the way.

So whatever your playstyle is, will ultimately be what you are. For example, I'm going for more of a charismatic knight. So I'm wearing full plate and wielding a longsword, and my speech is pretty decent. Draw back being i'm not very agile, so I can't dodge attacks as easy, so I'm forced to blocking or riposte to defend myself, which takes a decent amount of stamina to block incoming blows.
Cheers all.
At lvl 2 I have limited options. Stronghold (Strength) and Scout 1 (Main level) seem to be the only 2 options worth taking.
Do you get a point to spend in both main and sub or 1 point between both?
Can you save skill points to spend on higher lvl skills?

Main Level - First Aid

Strength - Mule, Heavy Swing

Vitality - Thick Blooded and Balanced Diet

Speech - Empathetic, Silver Tongue and Troubadour

Hover over each. It will tell you how often you get perks. Each is different.

Many thanks Dam. I cant choose the ones you mention yet only the ones for level 2 strength and main. Should I save my skill points untill i get a few levels more?

I went nuts collecting herbs before finishing my father's quest, and gained two perk points from leveling herbalism. Can I spend those on other skills or must they be picked from the herbalism perks?

Perk points can only be spent in their respective skill set, they'll have a number next to that skill on the list.
I went with stonghold 30% less stamina used on blocking for my first strength skill.

Thank you Gekko. So no point to not spending them if there are perks I might like in that category. +2 charisma for carrying fragrant herbs and gaining strength from picking herbs, sound useful.

Save some of them. You can calculate how many points you will have when you have it unlocked by hovering over that particular stat/skill.
