You can get feathers from nests along the way, sometimes you have to shoot them with an arrow.
This way you can get black feathers, don't know if they are related to that quest.

The herbalist west of Uhiltz has one of each for sale, the priest in Uhiltz will send you to her on a mission, or you can just follow the road north out of town, turn west at the T-junction and go down the windy trail through the forest.

You can also find them in dove-cotes, but they're rare.
