Stolen Weapons?

Is there any consequence if you are using a stolen weapon?

Only if a guard stops you for some reason.

But i been stopped lot of times in Rattay, with a weapon i took from a corpse in skalitz and the guard didnt do anything except searc me and then lets me go. But the villagers and shopkeepers hate me in Rattay they dont wanna sell or talk to me i thougt it was because of the stolen sword?

Only time I've come into an issue with a stolen item is when I asked a smithy to repair it for me. He refused to repair just that one piece of armor. I've been using that piece for about 5hrs of gameplay, running past guards, talking to lords. No issues except for the smithy

I read that the stolen modifier can be removed from an item if you throw it in one of your trunks for long enough.

I have left items in my horse and they seem to lose the stolen identification over time.
