Where is an alchemy bench (particularly in Rattay)?

So this is ridiculous and silly and according to every single search I've been running since I got this game I should not have to ask this, but: where the heck is an alchemy bench??? I've googled around and strangely enough the only single instance where anyone said anything was someone said there was one in Rattay near the south gate. It's weird, but apparently I'm the only one who has ever played this game who actually had trouble finding one if the search results are to be believed. I don't know what I'm missing, but no matter where I look I just don't see it. To make things even more ridiculous, as I walked near to the alchemist shop it specifically said I had discovered an alchemy bench. I've tried looking around the shop and nearby, but even in the private areas I just don't see it...

Well, I was looking around there yesterday and must have missed it, but is it even safe to go there? I've never figured out why a guard suddenly randomly chased me down and declared me to have committed a crime. He never even told me what it was. I've been afraid to wander around that area too much in case it was private and the game just forgot to tell me or something.

EDIT: I found it. No guards chased me down this time at least. I never did figure out what the deal was with that.

maybe you were wearing all cuman gear or something? if you look like an enemy they might take you for one...

Nope. The only thing I did at all that could in any way be construed as somehow negative is I haggled with several shopkeeps quite hard and one got a bit angry (but we still ultimately settled the deal when I started over.) Besides, he didn't declare me to be an enemy. He acted like I did "something." Just wouldn't tell me what. (I know people didn't have much by way of legal rights back then, but surely there was some sort of line where a corrupt guard couldn't just demand money from anyone or throw just anyone he doesn't like in jail, right?)
