Turn off Auto lock during combat
First off let me say I Love this game. its absolutely amazing and im so pulled into how all the systems work. Thank you so much for delivering a game of this caliber. :-)

Nonetheless with any game there is generally always something that annoys you and for this one there is one small thing that truly gets on my nerves.

I understand how the target locking works and I also dont mind its there and has alot of functions tied to it. But there is one simple little thing that annoys me, that I cant turn off. When i engage in combat it automatically locks onto a target without me pressing the lock button and I really want to be able to turn off this auto lock on if possible.

The problem i Encountered was I had a fight with 1 guy and 2 guys closing in from afar. It started out with me getting auto locked on the target as i hovered my mouse over him. I then clicked my middle mouse button to release the target lock but as i looked back to look at the enemy while trying to get away, it auto locked on the target closest to me again resulting in me taking some hits. I hit middle mouse again and try to turn around to run again and ofcourse as i like to check on my pursuers, I once again turned around and looked which caused me to get locked once more and end up dead.

This is just to mention one instance where this can annoy a person deeply.

As mentioned I understand how important the target lock is for the game but I really just want to be in full control of the target locking myself. When i click to unlock then it stays unlocked UNTIL i decide to tab myself into a target lock again with another target.

Is it possible to turn off the auto lock during combat via console or via some ingame option im unaware off? If not I REALLY want this to be a thing that gets implemented as a possibility. :-)

And how would you go about controlling the camera and the attack directions without the lock?

You seem to misunderstand what it is that I ask.

I do not ask for the lock to be entirely removed. Im asking for the lock to not engage automatically in combat but for me to be in control of when i want to lock my target or not. Im well aware combat abilities and such do not engage before you lock onto an opponent. I just want to be the one deciding when I lock onto a target with TAB and not be forced into a lock. :-)

I see, I somewhat agree. Though when engaging multiple opponents sometimes having the soft lock is really nice, and other times it's really annoying. I'd rather it be my choice I guess

Aye choice is what im after. Theres most likely plenty of people who also like that its there. Im just not one of them so really want the possibility to turn it off and engage it myself using TAB. :-)

Been messing around in the config files to see if i could find anything there but no luck finding anything

Will probably be a mod for it further down the line nonetheless!

Probably something hardcoded in the game tbh. Or possibly somewhere in the scripts, though it seems they included scripts and other assets that are not part of the game and look like they're just base Cryengine scripts and stuff. Haven't really gave it too much of a go through yet though. I will be once I've played the game a while and really decide to start modding it.

The lock-on is not realsitic, sorry but in real life if you focus entirely on one enemy, another gonna sneak up behind you and knock you down.

No thats true. Im not calling it realistic either. I just understand why its part of the game as they got alot of their combat mechanics linked to the lock and asking for a full change of the mechanic is asking way too much so all i want is just a way to turn off the auto lock and let myself decide when i want to lock onto a target with TAB when i want to :)

I have the same issue as the OP, I am trained in this stuff in real life (both melee and archery from this time period). Situational awareness, footwork, distance, timing and alignment to your foe is criticaland must be learned. However no one with any sense would let 3 people with weapon encircle him and ignore them in lieu of a single target. This is not the 'Henry does not know crap' scenario that pundits use as an answer to every complaint we make, this is just plain common sense. The lock on is useful when it is appropriate but at the very least they should give us a menu option to choose whether we want auto lock or manual lock.
