Herbalism suggestion: Get rid of the action sequence for picking flowers
It's just cumbersome. Having to see your character bend down and pick a flower, especially when you're already crouched, makes the act of picking herbs slightly tedious. Why not just have the herb disappear after we press E? Or instead of reverting to third person and showing the sequence of bending and picking, show the hand in first person removing the flower you click on (like when you show the hand picking up other objects or opening a door).

It just has a weird flow and makes herbalism a bit boring. I've gotten 8 levels of herbalism so far, I feel annoyed enough that I almost don't want to bother getting the other two (but I will).

It's a relatively realistic game. In real life flowers don't teleport into your pockets.

I think it's a compromise. Leveling herbalism makes you pick up all flowers of the kind you target in a radius. That radius grows with every level. So picking up one flower like you suggest would result in a whole swath of flowers disappear in front of your eyes. They avoid that problem by having the animation. Test it in a dense patch of flowers somewhere :)

If you are already crawling on the floor picking stuff, just make him extend his arm...no need to get up again get down to pick up again...its just redundant

Picking stuff up from a table (3 apples and a wine skin for example) is annoying as well. Not everything needs an animation that you will have to wait for 100000 times over the course of playing a game.

In real life you do not start at 17 years old. Why do you not need to go to the toilet in this game? Why does my hair not grow?
Not every real thing makes for a good game.
The "it is realistic" excuse simply does not work. Bad game design is bad game design.

Annnnd this user doesn't know the definition of "relatively".

Yeah, this seems like a case of people not realizing what leveling herbalism does for you.

Sure, its a hassle in the early stages, but once you have it high enough its really not that bad. One pick animation will pick up the bulk of what you see/want.

Yet that was your argument. You tell him off for suggesting it is bad design because it is realistic but when the same argument does not go your way you call it invalid.
His point stands, your post is redundant.

I understand this, which is why I think it would be better to replace the 'Third Person crouching down and picking animation' with a simple hand gesture that grabs the flower. I mean, I'd love if the flowers teleported into my pocket for the sake of brevity but I'm willing to make a compromise since the rest of the game has a realistic feel. I just think the crouching-and-picking animation ruins the flow of this realistic feel, especially when you're already crouched most of the time when picking flowers/herbs.
Even in the Elder Scrolls: Online your character bend down to pick up the flower.

IMMERSION.

Again, you do know that as herbalism increases, you pick up more per animation, right? So eventually if you find a small patch of flowers, you get all of them in one pick up animation.

Is this true for item picks (e.g. food items such as apples) as well?

Doubt it as picking those up doesn't fall under the herbalism skill.

Yes, I understand this. Still has nothing to do with animation of picking up herbs, where the difficulty increases with every level you gain. Just because I pick up 5 herbs at a time doesn't mean I'm getting 5x the experience.

I'm totally on board for that.

There are more than 10 levels of herbalism...
