Also, if 20 is a hard coded max, then that means those main level perks that give you a bonus to a stat at the cost of another are mostly useless. It would just let you max out a stat sooner, but would take you that much longer to max out the ones you're losing points to. Doesn't seem worth it to me.
Of course, I like to try and max out everything when I play. I'm sure there's people who will go for faster games and just focus on specific stats.
There is no story cap on any stats in the game. You can be at level 20 in everything before you even do your combat training in Rattay.
I recall seeing players with all stats to max, but their level was only showing like 18 or 20 (shouldn't it be 20 when everything is at 20?).
But I don't remember them taking anything that actually dropped stats. So I figured that they'd be at 20 when all stats are max.
Example: My speech is at 20, and I have a +3 speech when trying to persuade guards. If I murder somebody, and try to choose the speech option when trying to persuade a guard to not imprison me, my speech is only 20, not 23. So I fail the check.
Edit: I fail the check if I murder say...10 people. The guard's speech check goes to 21.
not sure I understand. my stats show I have a 20 speach with a + sign on my persuation meter in the lower right, so you saying that the + number in blue has no bearing on stat? Or are you saying that the Base Stat of any skill besides Main Lvl will top out at 20.
At 17, you would effectively count as having a 20 in the stat. If you raise the base to 18, you still only count as having a 20, because that's the hard cap on the stat (you don't get to be 21).
So bonus stats essentially just speed up hitting max, but don't actually help you any once you're there.
now I get it.
You will get notification that your skill went up whenever reading a skill book. There will be an additional notification when the skill levels up. A skill book will move the stats xp bar up, but may not move it enough to level the skill. That's when you'll get the notification that the skill increased, but not the notification that the skill leveled up.
