Silent takedown/choking isnt working?

I'll admit I've only tried it twice, once against a guard and once against a bandit, both have taken my hand and pushed me away, and then went on to engage me. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Is there a button I need to hold/press?

When your takedown skill is still low, experienced fighters or guards are easily going to just escape your grip. Practice on unsuspecting peasants and sleeping targets, or pay a shady character to teach you.

I had this problem too. Tried to sneakily dispatch Kunesh twice but each time my char starts the animation then just lets go then Kunesh just runs away. Would be nice to know what I'm doing wrong.

They noticed you, improve your stealth and use equipment with low 'noise' characteristic

This also helps, but if your steath skill is high enough anyway/you have some takedown based perks you can overpower targets anyway

The easiest ones to takedown are woman, however even Kunesh is possible. You just need to crouch from behind, don't come from the side. The armor and weapons you equip have different noise, so don't equip full armor for a takedown.

I'm trying to take down a Cuman OR Bandit sentry, I'm in brown clothes with my Vix and Conspic. at around 20-24, I've tried in daytime maybe i should wait ntil night?

I saw a streamer saving and loading multiple times before engaging a well armored stranger on the roads. After like 10 attempts to chock him out and failed, the last attempt worked for no reason. It seems like everything you do has a ramdom chance to work or fail, and not by passing stat check.
