I still can't trigger Master Strike consistently (the timing window is tiny) but the next-best-thing is Perfect Block (which is way easier timing-wise) + Riposte. That plus playing defensively instead of attacking all the time is the way to win in the tourney. Too bad many players just don't get it (the ones that complain about the combat mechanics)
The way to consistently get master strikes is to block when the swing just start its movement toward you. If you block when you first see movement it is just a perfect block. You have to wait just a little and it is a master strike. Playing on Hardcore really help this out. Since you do not rely on a UI and therefore have to learn to look at the animations.
See? This is confusing to me: I thought it was the other way, that the "earlier" block results in a Master Strike, and if you wait a bit (until the green shield appears) then it becomes a Perfect Block? IOW, if you block when their attack animation first starts (and don't wait for the Green Shield to appear) then that results in the Master Strike.
I sometimes think my game is broken or something, because for me Master Strike timing is so ridiculously easy that basically my every single block is a Master Strike. I tested it some more with Bernard and sometimes even if I purposely tried to delay my reaction, I was still triggering a Master Strike. I even reinstalled the game, thinking that some mod messed something up, but no. With not so strong Henry I am still able to trigger them just like that.
And on the other hand people say Master Strikes are not easy to time. That's why I'm wondering if something is just broken on my side. If it wasn't for Better Combat mod, I think I would have just quit the game because of this.
lolo, nice idea!
why didnt i think of this before, haha.
I think the reason it took me so long to "git gud" is that I spent too much time early on using horse archery and initially only went to Bernard to upskill through hit points rather than actually learn how to combo and parry properly.
Understanding of combat is nice - imho the tourney is a good place to practice combos - if You´re a bit unsure to use it in a real combat. After You win the first fight - it doesn´t matter if You loose the second, because in that case there will be a third. So one can try other things than just winning every duel with masterstrikes.
Not sure if it's a bug or that he's cheating and I need to learn or use some extra tricks to overcome. The idea about focusing on defence and master strikes is something to consider. I've done a bit of that, but not to the extent others suggest here.
And I think , the powerful swing perk, which gives you more damage in your attacks at the cost of 10 percentage of stamina should be avoided. It leaves you high and dry. Feints work very well in fight. And so are master strikes.
Keep your eyes on stamina. Never let it below the red marker.Otherwise your attacks won't generate power . Backtrack and let the enemy attack you.
Or get combat, agility and strength up. It gets easier with better skill levels.
Unless you can't have perfect blocking without master strike? It's been a while honestly.
