On another note, it's pretty cool to hear from someone who actually lives near the story's origin point. Central Bohemia must be really beautiful indeed if the KCD representation is any indicator.
Actual nightingale is known for its singing, and as a poetic symbol in european and slavic cultures, and when you hear THIS ♥♥♥♥ for the first time... it's either hilarious or ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ scary depending on circumstances. It can't be unintentional.
Other aspects of nature are perfectly crafted, the herbs look correct, animals I came across upon every walk in the woods are correct, other birdsongs are correct, tree species and woods composition are outstandingly accurate. The landscape is still this beautiful, but only when it rains, which has been a really scarce during last years and everything suffers from droughts.
It is also true that this game isn't dubbed to Czech because the market is so small, but on the other hand we got so many popculture jokes and notes here and there specific only for our folks that I don't feel I got something less then the other nations. I'm so happy with the outcome and so proud it's been produced in Czechia.
song is a beautiful thing; however, it is a song not widely known. Also, I highly suspect to any untrained ear (such as mine) it will sound like almost every other bird song outside. The choice of the "nutcracker"--as you put it-- seems like a clear one. Pick something highly distinguishable from the background ambiance.
It must be the fact that Berthold performs badly and Henry, having no idea, catches something that sounds like bad Berthold's performance, but it is totally wrong. In the end, Berthold accepts them, because he's no birder, he's huntsman, birds are not his speciality.
Little fun fact: I noticed a bird's call while playing Call of Juarez Gunslinger: imagine deserted mountains, eagle circling high in the sky, western drama. The bird calls. Bad luck, it's one of several call types of black woodpecker, totally inappropriate to the setting (can be heard more likely here in Bohemia, actually). But at least, it sounds a bit like eagle. Like 40 % match.
Here is someone who has mastered priorities. Ones of which causes to champion and of which 5 year old threads to necro. Magnificent to behold such skill and glory.
You hear that, Vavra? Zorbas will get the spade, you get the birds
The reason is quite simple. The birds are in a forest, with many other birds chirping around. So they had to choose a sound that was very distinctive, disruptive even to make it easy for players to hear and locate it. You can't really expect people to become ornithologists, just to finish a small side-quest.
The audio in the game is actually rather mediocre, specifically engineering and directing. I like to believe they picked this sample as an inside joke, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just chose whatever stock bird call they figured was distinct.
Can we just stop this nonsense? If someone brings back a thread from 5 years ago about the combat system, about which we get three new threads every single ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ day, I'd be with you. But Bringing back a more obscure, rarely discussed question is perfectly fine in my book.
