American accents!! Why?

I must say that at first glance this is an amazing game. And then I met the first of a number of characters in the game with American accents and to me that immediately reduces the integrity of the game. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Americans. However, they come from a country that was not discovered until almost 100 years after the setting of this game.

I think the American accent immediately takes some of the quality out of any game, film or tv show set in the middle ages or earlier. I never understand developers who do this.

i dont focus on the nationality of the voice actors, i just dont care about it. if i play in english language i expect voice actors to be from english speaking countries. do i get triggered by it. no. its just a game. but on a side note, if i say what i think about americans i wont have access to the forum anymore. but do their accents in a game bother me. no. its just a game.

No actually you aren't. Any show, film or game set in the Dark Ages looks perfectly fine with British accents because England was at least a country back then. Hell, any European accent would have worked equally well in the context of this game. American simply doesn't. The country is simply too young and in my opinion, anything set in the middle ages is cheapened by the use of American accents. If you disagree, that is your right. I'm just saying that I think it sounds ridiculous.

There are plenty of other accents from different nations in this game, more so rural English accents that are totally out of place. There's even an Aussie accent in one of the characters who literally says "G'Day".

Is there a way to change the language into the original game language for non Czech speakers? I'd love to play this and just use subtitles whilst having authentic accents.

I watched Robin Hood Prince Of thieves the other day. Kevin Costner (the legend) played a great Yank Robin Hood. Nothing wring with it, wasn't jarring at all. In fact, i think if the Robin Hood myth and legends were true, then he most likely had a thick californian accent. ;)

Kevin Costner's accent in that movie was atrocious, it went from British to Australian and I guess he gave up and just stuck with his American accent for the rest of the movie.

Accents I grew up with in games were beeps and boops. When a character talked in a computer game, they went "Beep beep beep boop boop boop beeeeep".

Still the best type of accent.

Why did they use British and other foreign actors and not Czech? Apart from Sir Brian Blessed, I keep forgetting he's in this.

..because there are people that don't want to constantly read English subtitle on screen. It's annoying.

Not sure what you're asking, ALL games have at least English voiceovers. Gotta have them if you wanna sell games in the English speaking world duh.

Yes the American accents are jarring, but at least they attempt to sound typically English. I generally overlook it though, each voice has character and its done relatively well.

I thought it was kind of strange too because America didn't exist as a colony until around 1400's. It was named after a military General or Admiral by the name of Amerigo Vespucci and it was mostly small colonies of Portuguese and Spanish. So it is definitely immersion breaking when the character has a modern day American accent instead of something close to Portuguese or Spanish.
