American accents!! Why?
I must say that at first glance this is an amazing game. And then I met the first of a number of characters in the game with American accents and to me that immediately reduces the integrity of the game. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Americans. However, they come from a country that was not discovered until almost 100 years after the setting of this game.

I think the American accent immediately takes some of the quality out of any game, film or tv show set in the middle ages or earlier. I never understand developers who do this.

There's some irony - complains about American accents in a game that takes place in Czech-speaking Bohemia being ravaged by Hungarian-speaking minor lord, almost all speaking English with British accents BECAUSE THAT'S SO MUCH MORE AUTHENTIC, amiright?

No actually you aren't. Any show, film or game set in the Dark Ages looks perfectly fine with British accents because England was at least a country back then. Hell, any European accent would have worked equally well in the context of this game. American simply doesn't. The country is simply too young and in my opinion, anything set in the middle ages is cheapened by the use of American accents. If you disagree, that is your right. I'm just saying that I think it sounds ridiculous.

Funny considering german overdubs for games have historically been always horrendous, i just say Metal Gear Solid.

The english overdub is not perfect but it's adequate. Considering the developer was small time before they sold out, it's admirably what they got done.

I always thought it mildly amusing they went with British characters and didn't stick to mainland European accents, not as if they'd have a shortage of voice actors locally.

But yes the two that are just completely immersion-breaking are the American priest in Uzhitz and most laughable of all the NPC with the broad Australian accent. What on earth were they thinking!

The gaming world will miss you, truly.

A truly pointless reply. You are going to need to explain. You quote two separate replies that have little to do with each other and then make a comment that doesn't seem to relate to either of them. Either English is not your first language and you really don't understand the comment you just made or you simply don't have the intelligence to be part of this conversation.

Why bothering??!! It's just the accent, it's still English, if you are going to complain, then complain about the English. Why do they speak English when they are supposed to speak Czech???!! Well if you ask that then I say this: so people can understand!!! The accent is just trying to make this game more "authentic, arty" in a way, it's just like movies depicting different cultures like Greek Mythologies (like seriously, they speak English in American/British accent???), or tons other stuff.

People got to stop "indulging" the stuff to ridiculous level. I've seen bunch of animes with blondies speaking Japanese, and people don't complain that why they speak Japanese, but they complain when there English dubbed, like WTF!!!!???

You're going to compair this to Anime? Seriously!! Anime is a cartoon style that uses almost nothing that can be compaired to anything realistic. There is not one aspect of Anime that is based on realism.

This game is set in a specific period of history and while it may not be perfect, it does a pretty good job of capturing what I imagine the time might have looked like. Sure the game could have been done in Czech but as the majority of players do not speak that then there would be a lot of subtitle reading which would take a lot away from the game.

My whole reason for posting this was because, to my ears, the American accent sticks out in this game as badly as it would if one of the bandits jumped out from behind a tree wearing a Spice Girls T-shirt. If you didn't notice anything wrong hearing the American accent then lucky you. To me, it sounded wrong as soon as the first character with an American accent started talking.

I don't compare Anime to this, I set it an example of saying how absurd people are when coming to realism of games or movies. They are still product of entertainment, they serve for that purpose, it's fine to immerse yourself in it but there is a line.

Like I said, complaining about the accent doesn't make sense when it is still English. Ok so English is not even my native tongue, but I thought Henry sounding pretty British enough, and his friends do too, or maybe I'm wrong. Sure, there are accents here and there, but I'm sure that even people speak Czech, they do have accents when traveling from different region, because every country has that. I don't see the point, really, like it is still English and people in here are supposed to speak Czech, if you can get over with that then why bothering the accent. Though I prefer not to play game in different language, not even for immersion purpose, it's distracting to read subtitles all the time.

You know what, I am done with this conversation. It is like you are purposefully missing the point. All the main characters have British accents. I have no problem with that. It is the few background characters like the priest in Ledetchko. Sure he speaks English but with a broad American accent. You don't have an issue with that, good for you. To me that accent in this game has the same effect as it would if I walked into one of the taverns and was greeted by the background music of, "Barbie Girl" by Aqua.

If you don't get that then fine. As I say I'm done with this. Reply, don't reply. I don't care. I'm unsubscribing to this conversation and won't see it anyway.

I agree it takes a bit away from it all, American accents just don't fit in a medieval setting, any European accent wouldn't really matter but American accents kill immersion. It wasn't bad in KCD but a lot of Americans sound really annoying too so at least we avoided that.

I watched Robin Hood Prince Of thieves the other day. Kevin Costner (the legend) played a great Yank Robin Hood. Nothing wring with it, wasn't jarring at all. In fact, i think if the Robin Hood myth and legends were true, then he most likely had a thick californian accent. ;)

Alan Rickman bossed it as the Sherriff of Nottingham though. Rip.

My point is............. I have no point.
Matt Apr 8, 2020 @ 10:15am
No way the Robin Hood stuff is true anyway and that film looks to be incredibly unrealistic anyway so there is no realism to kill
