Using the Sun as Your Compass (Hardcore Help)
Yes, everyone on the planet knows the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, but it doesn't line up EXACTLY for the majority of the day, and is actually 45 degrees off twice throughout the day, which may still confuse some people. As a quick guide to those struggling to know PRECISELY where they're going while using the sky to navigate, here are a few pointers:

The sun rises and sets on the "north side" of east and west respectively. So when you see the sun creep above the horizon at dawn, know that, if you're looking directly at the sun, you're also looking a little north. Just before dusk when the sun is setting and it's about to hide beneath the hills, if you're looking directly at it you're looking a bit to the north as well.

The sun lines up almost directly with "East" at and around 8 o'clock in the morning, and the sun lines up with "West" at and around 6 o'clock in the evening.

At all times between 9:00 in the morning and 5:00 in the afternoon, the sun is on the "South" side of the theoretical East-West plane. When finding your bearings between these times, know that if you're looking directly at the sun, you're also facing a little south as well, and depending on the time, you're actually facing completely southeast or southwest. At around 10:30 or 11:00 in the morning, looking at the sun points you southeast. At around 2:30, you'd be looking southwest

If you need to orient yourself in a hurry but it's noon on the dot, Looking straight up at the sky and placing the sun to the RIGHT of center of the screen faces you approximately east. It's very close, but not exactly. It's close enough to get oriented though, for sure.

I know this is rather basic and most of us get from A to B with little trouble, but if you're going halfway across the map and you gauge your direction even slightly wrong on the outset of your odyssey, you may very well end up somewhere else entirely, especially if you decide to stray from the roads in an attempt find yourself a shortcut :kcdhead: I hope this helps you prevent that.

Thanks :^), I was using a mod to use the HUD for a few hours. Because IRL the sun rise and sets differently and I was thrown off. Now I will have this open on my second monitor so I can use it as a reference till I get it in my head.

Same, I am using the Combat immersion mod on hardcore with all the debuffs, as a first playthough :^). So theres not even a compass I can use to pin point objectives :3. The game brings back that childlike wonder I got from morrowind. So its super fun, plus I dont get why people think the story is bad. or meh. Like sure it is generic, but all the stuff inbetween is amazing, and the writing is very good.
