if you refere to that there are no children in the game this is most likely a ressource and age rating thing, children need their own models, animations, clothes and voices which needs ressources they need for other areas of the game.
and if you have children then you either make them unkillable or risk to get forbitten (probably not anymore, it could be that this has changed during the years) in some countries or to get a very high age rating.
likely this is related to ressources too. (but that is speculation), the game has blood on weapons though.
Both Henry and Hans are in some way implied to be both minors according to modern standards, even though one post floating around somewhere said Henry is 27, which must be a mistake. Again I think Legatus is on the right track. I think it's cowardly and a sign of how weird modern day society is, but that's not up to the Warhorse team to decide. I agree since it's the Middle Ages, there should be loads of kiddies and pregnant women. But I see the usual criers for realism resort to other stuff now, hypocrites to be honest.
I think they probably avoided it for role-play and character development.
In the entire game you are supposed to play as Henry, a weak survivor from Skalitz who matures physically and mentally as plot progresses.
He is meant to be relatable.
If we visually see him chopping off heads and piecing swords through guts, we will no longer see him as a main character but just a cold-blooded murderer.
When you execute a "mercy-kill" you don't see the victim's head being crushed, you only see Henry doing the action. The camera is intentionally focused on Henry.
Anymore realism kcd wouldn't be a role playing game, it would be a medieval war simulator.
Even though I'd wish a deadlier reality as for stabbing a bandit in the face with a sharp longsword, the combat system is so satisfying that I barely miss the gore that should come with it.
(I'd still wish for gore though)
As for the work of a small studio, this combat system is light years better than Oblivion/Skryrim from Bethesda, and surpasses Dark Souls. Forest quality is also much better (for vanilla game)
The realistic part of this game is mostly sword fighting combat and bows. And the horse animation better than Oblivion and Skyrim!
Decapitation is considered barbaric act, unless it's a prisoner waiting for guillotine.
So merciful kills aren't decapitations. And we don't see Henry chopping ears off from bandits and Cumans eiher.
No children, it's true. No pregnant women, also true.
We can only hope for a bigger game with same combat system and physics! Only with more content in it for a better representation of reality. KCD is more than a good start for them.
