Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Warhorse Studios take on magic?
To start, I love Kingdom Come: Deliverance and don't think it could use magic in the slightest. I'd actually dislike it if they touched magic to Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Anyway, I'm curious how Warhorse Studios would go about using magic? I personally liked how games like Skyrim or Dark Souls made their magic feel very offensive, but I also like how games like Dragon Age: Origins did their magic and made it feel more of a supportive/defensive role. If they made a game similar to Kingdom Come: Deliverance (OW first and/or third person) either combining melee and magic or just straight magic oriented, how would they do it?

Opinions? Thoughts?

Please, discuss!

I love the fact there is absolutely no magic, and it's pure historical game from the real world. I wish there could be more games like Kingdom Come. I'm quite overdosed by fancy fantasy worlds and magic, since it's in every second game. But the best for me in that category is certainly The Witcher.

I would actually love for them to make a magic game (not a Kingdom Come game, but perhaps a new franchise), their melee combat in this game was great, so I would like to see their take on a magic system.

Besides the healing, barter, stealth, ..., ..., potions?

Come on, it's a game like any other. Nothing personal, honestly, but all those who tout this as some "real world" game seem delusional, LOL.

OP has a good and fair question. Now that there is a good sword combat system (needs work, but better than most) what would WH do with magic?

Potions existed in medieval times (called elixirs), and the healing is a gameplay mechanic more than a realism feature (it's just sped up real life healing), but even then it's much more realistic than every other healing system out there.

And do you think that stealth and bartering do not exist in the real world?
Elixirs vs. potions? You're really not going to hide behind semantics, are you? And yes, that is exactly my point, it's a game mechanic so get off the high "realism" horse.

I could argue that there are entertainers in the real world that perform acts that cannot be explained unless initiated into their secrets; if they are good they make a lot of money in Vegas.

Therefore, there is magic in the real world. People believed in magic, shamanism, witches, etc. during the time of KCD. If WH did a Arthurian or Templars game they would have to include something like magic, maybe not fireball wielding warlocks, but you know...
I would love to see a more "realistic" approach to magic in video game.
In plenty of games there is talk on how dangerous magic can be but it never is for our(player) character other then blowing itself up or something.

Remember how in Dragon Age there are possessed mages or templars. Remember how in Skyrim people talk on how powerful mages are yet all they do is cast small fire orbs that can be sidestepped. Yet all You have to do is press one button and You never fail the spell only fails to damage the enemy.

Yes, I would love a game where magic is insanely powerful, but it has a lot of risk and where it is a risk reward decision.

I hope they expand into new areas or start again in another nation or conflict. Anytime in the 100 year war would suit me just fine.

England vs France never gets old.

Enderal (that complete Skyrim overhaul) has a nifty mechanic something like mana-burn where you risk your health if you take too many elixirs, I mean potions... I barely started Enderal but then heard a new version is due to be released on steam any day, so waiting for that... have a look.

No, the fact I got this game is due to it being one of the only few medieval games with no magic, and a historic setting.

Don't get me wrong, I love my fantasy medieval themed games with magic.
But no magic for this game or similar games pls, the whole point to this game is to give it a medieval realistic setting where combat is not about the most flashy moves and styles, but simply tactics, knowledge and experiance.
While there doesn't seem to be any way to use magic in KCD, other than a side quest where magic is attempted to quiet a haunting and that has more of a 'psychological' resolution, there are
at least some references to magic in KCD.

There's are 'interesting places' and 'accidents' with magical content - places where witches have crashed to the ground on their brooms, giant trees with boots on what appear to be the tree's feet lie next to a human skeleton, witch burials with dragonfly brooches, and a grave where the body is covered with rocks - one of the traditional ways of dealing with the undead. These places really can't be explained by an means other than the 'magical'...
