Problem with Esc-key (e.g. open menu)

Got a big problem with the game. Whenever I press Escape, the game freezes and I can't play any more. The music keeps playing, but I can't move my character. No matter how long I press the Escape key, or no matter what other key I press, nothing happens anymore. I have to close the game via the Task Manager and then start it again...
Does anyone have any idea what it's all about? Or can you help?

Do you use any mods? If you do, try to uninstall them. This looks as a mod issue.

i have the same problem, i tried to reinstall the game but it still freezes after about 5-10 minutes after i started it again.

My problem is just a little different: In a Help/Tutorial screen you have to press and hold Esc for a second or so to get out of it. When the little wheel is about 1/4 done, it pages me out of the game as if I had pressed <alt><tab>. I can select the game to get back where I was, but I can never get out of the Help page.
