How to unlock directions(north, south etc)
Playing on hardcore and I am getting lost often.
Is there a perk that will show me directions on compass?
If there is non how can I recognize where is north south west and east? By shadows, or something.

do you not have access to the world map on hardcore? i seriously dont konw, i dont play hardcore but if you have then you can see it by the direction your position marker is directet to or just by the position of it and the direction in which you want to go which you can make out by key points like towns/villages for example.

Maybe you can tell from where the sun is? So for example the sun is always going to rise from one direction and likewise it will set from the opposite. So that should be able to help you get your bearings right?

That's the problem. I would need to test it and right now I have very little time in real life and I do not want to screw up the quest I am in.

I have access to map but problem are areas like forest, I would need to go to one site of the forest or find any of the points(interesting points, camps etc) to get an idea where I am.

Look for the sun, the shadow on the ground and the time in the inventory menu. There you go, you are no more lost.

I'm hoping this is accurate.
Will try it

If you have very basic survival skills, it will work. Else, you'll get used to it. First find the North, and then, find landmarks (tall ones) and navigate by them.

Some people have easier time, some don't, it depends.

It should be fun and immersive :steamhappy:

Is there any way to tell directions without sun? Sometimes i got lost in middle of deep forest with view to sun blocked, or in middle of night. Something like moss on trees? :D

No, just start walking in one direction, the map is of limited size youll get out of the forest eventually.
If you can see the Moon however you can navigate by that. Theoretically anyway, i know that the sun is realistic in its path i havent tried with the moon.

iCzeky is right, the forest in this game are relatively smalls. Take a direction before entering the forest, towards your objective, and maintain that direction.

The way I got used to it was just landmarks. I tested the sun theory (Very very briefly) and I felt like it wasnt accurate at all. If you pay attention to landmarks you'll get used to the area very quickly. In spots where there's 5 or 6 roads running into each other still give a tad bit of confusion but run the route 3 or 4 times and you'll know it like the back of your hand

There is a mod that will add the compass back and also your character location if you want.

Watch for the sun and stars. Sun and Stars in this game are accurate. Also use your map for directions.

Dont cheat and the rewards will be great. I can now navigate the world without ever looking at the map, I know the roads by heart. Took a lot of time but still.
