You see the problem with changing it outside of the game is that my dpi for everything else would change as well and only the lockpicking dpi is an issue.
On top of that the mouse sensitivity in the game doesn't change the lockpicking sensitivity so that doesn't fix anything either so either option there won't work.
I went poking around in Windows Control Panel and discovered that my mouse was set to be a bit more sensitive than it needed to be, but also that there was an accelerator that was always on that turbo-charged everything I did.
I un-checked the accelerator and played around with the most un-responsive settings for my mouse that I could stand. When I had finally settled on something that wouldn't drive me crazy when I was doing graphics work or writing a spreadsheet, I saved the settings and tried again.
It didn't work.
My mouse was still way too sensitive, so I decided to try something else.
I kept the slowed down settings from Windows Control Panel since they didn't interfere with my computer life, but went into the KCD settings control section. There's an adjustment in there for mouse sensitivity, and I found that by leaving a single vertical bar of dots I could slow the mouse down enough to control it when picking a lock.
Be advised, however, that when you have the mouse that de-sensitized you really can't do anything else.
So what that means is that before you attempt to pick a lock you position yourself in front of the target with the center of your mouse pointed at the lock. Then you hit escape, go into settings, and crank down your mouse to one bar of sensitivity (if you go all the way to the left so no bars are showing you won't be able to use your mouse at all).
You'll be able to control the pick well enough to learn what you need to learn to get a lock open. But remember that when the lock is finally defeated, the first thing you have to do, even before you open the chest, is hit escape, go into settings, and restore to defaults. You're essentialy helpless when you mouse is that insensitive, and there's always a danger that someone might walk in on you.
