Save system is really just a bad idea
I get the whole realism thing and not having the capability to save scum, but if I do some travelling with some side quests and then I decided to do a bandit camp, even if I sleep in a hay barn, all of that progress can be erased. Potentially an hour of game just erased because I thought the game would have saved at some point, even though I thought the game saved when I slept (I slept in a bandit camp bed thing).

So yeah.... quickest way for me to just turn off the game is to erase all my progress from the day. Great job...

So, save in one of 100 locations which have a 'save and sleep' bed. Restore yourself at a bath-house, with a full bath and possibly a woman. Drink a Saviour Schnapps before going all Leroy Jenkins.

Or just deal with a small loss of progress and live that day another way.

It isn't an onerous system, though it requires you to be considerate of Henry.

What is it about 'Save and Exit' that is so difficult for people to understand ?

It's so easy to save without using a savior schnaps potion that there's almost no point to them.

It's shown in the tooltip if a bed saves the game or not, and you have to sleep more than 1 hour.
Git gud at understanding the game and making decisions

Buy a large number of saviour schnapps early in the game. Not a problem.
I didn't like it either. just save yourself the headache and download a mod that fixes it. I enjoyed the game alot more when i did.

I remember the good old days when your virtual life meant something. We used to play OFP (Operation Flashpoint. These days called ARMA1,2,3) and online when we did missions (with random people even) you had ONE life during missions. Because of that one life per mission you played tactically and as a team player because you didnt want to die and then spectate 30min-2h so that you could join again. You cared about your life and so everyone stayed together as a team and when you and your guys came under fire it was exciting and memorable. Today you respawn every 2 seconds and no one gives a crap about anyone or anything except their highscore and achievements. When you died back then it felt a little bit like dying for realz (sorta kinda). :steamhappy:

PS. In that huge OFP world there was also no fast travel. Find a car, bus, bicycle... OR WALK!

Interesting example, because in OFP, even in sigleplayer mode you could save only once during a mission - so you can create a checkpoint if needed, but it prevents the gameplay from turning into savescumming fest. It doesn't seem that difficult to understand that it's an intended gameplay feature and not every FPS game is supposed to be played like Doom.
Also, it's a czech game, just like KC:D

Just mod it out. I've had my game freeze during cutscenes, inventory, store menus, alchemy bench several times. Now I just save before any of those or after any meaningful occurance. That's the beauty of PC gaming, if you don't like something, odds are somebody has already made a mod for it.

So, to clarify: No free save, but there is a workaround by quitting and loading ? Is that it ?

True that. For me, several hours of doing side quests went when I discovered sleeping in my bed at Rattay hadn't actually resulted in a saved game.

go to nexusmods_com and download modfile that removes the need for savior schnapps and you can save when you want.

The save system in this game is nothing when compared to the games of yore.
Crybabies led to the implementation of the exit save in an update.
Spare me, I played the old games of yore, you wanna know the biggest difference? The old games of yore didn't have an open world with many achievable objectives. This is rather obscene where you can go days without saving because you didn't sleep in the right bed, and then lose it all because you ran into a bandit encounter with like 10+ bandits.

The problem isn't having to replay a mission, the problem is losing whole hours of progress that you'll just have to redo. There's nothing fun nor challanging in having to redo trivial or low risk tasks.

You wanna talk about challanging games that punish you for dying, look at dark souls... I've have hundreds of hours in those games, and I think they do the dying punishment mechanic very well. I may have to go back through an area, but I didn't lose everything that I did in that hour.
Jelly Donut Dec 22, 2018 @ 8:15pm
They're trying a new game mechanic and I think it's okay. Brewing potions is a bit time consuming, but it does make multiples (3x potions per brew). Then there's the perk to auto-brew 3x potions once you make it to level 13 (can be spammed twice to make 6x potions per brew). If all else fails and you've ran out of schnapps you can "Save and Quit".

Like Terben said if you don't like the save game mechanic then download the "Unlimited Saving" mod.

I do think there should be an auto-save before the start of a mission.

I agree with the OP. I'd much rather be able to save as needed, rather than having to go through all kinds of preparations to make sure I'm not going to lose anything.

I find it truly aggravating to have to replay the same 10 minutes of the game multiple times to the point where I achieve something (and couldn't afford to spend a savior schnapps. I don;t mind challenges (I like them), but I DO hate time-sinks that waste 40 minutes of my day.

Still, I like the game. But the save-system SUCKS
RedLion II Dec 26, 2018 @ 8:33pm
So, Why have a save system that requires you to use those schanps? And then everyone mods it out? Why not simply abandon this and get everyone the possibility to save whe he wants? Whats the problem with this?
I has a scene where I a had to reload 3 times......for notning at all.....and then to have to re-follow the whole history and scenes.
Thats simply annoying. Abandon that save system.
Get everyone regular save possibilities.
