Is there a penalty for being barefoot?
Given that footwear seems to degrade with distance travelled, I was curious if there was any compelling reason to wear it aside from the defense it provides. Particularly early on, when you might not have very effective boots, and can't afford or be bothered with constantly repairing them.

Just buy the tailor repair kit and repair it yourself. You gain experience toward your maintainence skill which provide with a few good skills to learn.

Defense, charisma, and the bonus for wearing shoes you've repaired yourself.

Also shoes are repaired with a cobbler's kit, not a tailor's kit.

With self-repaired boots, you move faster, and people can find self-repaired garments more charming (not sure if that charisma bonus applies to boots) ... BUT .... all clothing can add to overall charisma, so if you get a nice expensive pair of nobleman's boots it'll boost ole charmin' Henry's sexy appeal.

So it's pretty much just losing out on whatever bonuses you would have gotten from your boots. I suppose this is only relevant in the very early game, as later it would be pretty easy to repair your boots or get a new pair.

Still, it just seems odd that a game that tries to be "realistic", especially in the context of constantly degrading your boots as you travel, for there to be no other penalty. Two off the top of my head that would probably work well are (1) increased stamina consumption while running/jumping/dodging due to the extra wear on your bare feet, or (2) instead of degrading your boots (since you're barefoot), you instead very slowly lose health (as in, something like 1 point per km or something, enough to be inconvenient but not enough to be life threatening).

I just feel like you really shouldn't want to walk aroung barefoot. They could make a perk that negates the penalties of being barefoot, or even gives extra bonuses, but for most people they'd want shoes to protect their feet from the wear and tear of travel over rough terrain (or bad roads).

If we're taking it down to that level of detail, can we also please have:

- warmth/cold/exposure based on clothing
- varied stamina consumption and speed based on encumberance
- need to wee and poo
- camping
- more dangerous weather, and travel speed and visibility affected by weather
- darker nights

There isn't a penalty for going barefoot, there are only advantages for wearing shoes. I typically wear the 'old boots' until repair skill is level 20 and then upgrade to leather boots. Old shoes are extremely easy to repair and one small repair kit will last almost forever.

Shoes make you faster, with the early repair kit. This is important for just general efficiency and chasing a foe or running away from death.

Later you can even use high armor on your feet to help you survive that way.

The main purpose is they help you raise & max the maintenance skill easily without combat.
