the average frames for KCD is 60fps. Thats a good game play with little problems.
The frame drops are mainly entering towns with villagers activating. thats a game optimization problem.
Just change the resolution if you want A LOT of FPS. I did it and it worked wonders, from unplayable to 30-60 fps for my potato laptop.

SexyBiscuit it good KCD YouTuber.
There was also an issue I had with the refresh rate. The biggest performance boost I got was from disabling V-Sync and enabling Freesync.
As the first commenter pointed out, though, there are some areas in which it's just not going to run silky smooth regardless.
Stable overclocks do not produce overheating problems. They won’t make miracles happen though and may only net a small performance boost for certain games. However many games do not like overclocks and will crash or have performance issues. It all depends on each person’s hardware.
Personally I have my liquid cooled 1080Ti overclocked for a net gain of 20% FPS in KCD. I run with an ultra/very high mix. I get a solid 60-90 outside towns and 45-60 in towns.
Best bet for most people is going to be lowering settings and not using high res textures etc. Overclocking can help though if you’ve got adequate cooling.

Saying overclocking doesn't cause overheating isn't exactly true, you can have a gpu who's thermals are fine but soon as overclocking is in action, it pushes the hardware to fun faster and faster than it was intended and for my instance it does cause a big increase in temps but with max temps at 86C I'm fine.
Overclocking is another discussion in and of it self (currently in school for A+ and N+ stuff). xD Long as temps are fine and voltage aren't too high and the pc is stable the next troubleshooting step is to see what games/programs benefit from it (games that benefit from O.C. gpus like GTAV does but CSGO does not). I'm unsubbing to this. GL everyone.
And your advice is useless to me, because your mod did not help at all and did more harm than good (settings lock), maybe you should learn to read and value the subjective nature of advice. By the way, your mod is out dated, the game version is 1.9.4.
If you watch the YouTUbe Link I posted it has three videos by SexyBiscuit. Helped me from 5 to average of 60fps with my PC.
This is what I mean by subjective, maybe it worked for you. But I tested it on two machines and it did no good on the 1st, on the 2nd better one, gave a settings lock and mediocre fps.
By the way, the video you linked, references an entirely different graphics mod by a different author, not the one by gerardfraser... A little bit of concreteness helps.
You are the kind of person to argue for the sake of argument, I can see that. Only 1 video from the list links a graphics mod, and its a very out dated mod, the game has been updated numerous times since then, the latest version being 1.9.4.
I doubt what you seen is real or anywhere near objectively conclusive, I've tested this on a 400$ laptop, and on a 1000$ one. Then again, subjective is just that. Settings lock has been an issue with this game for multiple people, do some searching. Mine was solved when I deleted the graphics preset mod.
