WHY CANT I RUN AWAY?!
So this is the first game that I’ve become so frustrated I’ve accidentally broke something (fling up my hands and broke my headphones).
Why oh WHY when I’m in a five v. One encounter that is obviously to much and I run away the dude turns around and then I get mobbed?! I try to position my horse to close so I can run away quickly but if I put it to close it despawns, if I put it to far he doesn’t run away he just makes some space and turns around to face his attackers, or the horse stops and dumps . Why is this game the most frustrating thing ever created by the biggest bunch of people who want to make you as frustrated as possible?! Who expects to make resale value when people just want to give up on your game within the first couple hours of game play?!

Just like in a real 1 v 5 your opponents are gonna attack from behind and grab you. Anyways, I usually call my horse and then run back n forth a little, around shrubs, tree's, etc and hop on the horse and immediately start running away. Usually works, but not always so best to not get into a 1 v 5 if possible!

When you are hit, you lose stamina - if your stamina is zero, you take damage instead - when you take damage you are staggered. It sounds plain and simple (and fair), but it is a brutally frustrating part of this game. (note, you can take damage without being zero stamina, too, and you will be staggered).

If you have no stamina, you cannot sprint. If you are staggered, you cannot fight back or move. If 5 opponents surround you, and all attack at once, you will constantly be out of stamina and staggered. But you have clearly discovered this (and it sucks being beaten to death).

It is very unrealistic (IMO) that 5 peasants with sticks can destroy a knight in full plate armor - this shouldn't happen irl, but it does in KCD. My level of fury over this has been tamed with time, because the game is pretty cool otherwise.

So, the obvious suggestion, now that you have learned a particular mechanic, is to not allow yourself to be surrounded, avoid the ambushes, or "get used to dying" (sorry for being so blunt).

My real fury came when the peasants killed me and i had to reload and replay 30 minutes of the game, because of the stupid save policy - i think i had to walk away, but my headphones did survive :)

From my experience, Training with Bernard will never allow you to win these battles (Level 10+, Level 6+ in weapons and defense = still killed by peasants w/sticks).

I now use an add-on called "Ultimate Saving" that lets me save unlimited times.

I also use Poison arrows to weaken my foes before switching to melee and finishing them off (this was one of Bernards tips by the way, controlling you space - he has many that really help)

And i tend to run or back up often to keep them from surrounding me (keeping control of my battle space - another Bernard tip). I have discovered that only one or two of the ambushers will sprint after me when i run by them, but mostly, i rely on my bow to winnow down my opponents.

Remember, during the tutorial in Skalitz, there was a part at the end where if you chose to stand and fight you would die. Keep this in mind, since that is also a lesson. Henry is not an over-powered champion like in many other single-player games (i have played many of those too).

But stick with it - the game story is good, and the writing is top notch.

5 peasants could possibly beat a fully armoured knight. All they would have to do is grab him and pin him down. The knight would be screwed. Peasants wouldn't have been completely useless, as they would have had to protect their own lands. Wearing full armour doesn't make you indestructible.

Those sticks you are talking about, those are polearms. The deadliest weapons in the game.

Its frustrating for me too. Cant beat any bandit, I only defeat 2 because climbed a rock and their AI couldnt follow me there, used arrow. I will train for one time beat them in close combat.

Yeah it's a wonder my keyboard is in one piece, but like many have said the game is good and very immersive, and the story line is great.

I think it´s fair that you´re being beaten up if outnumbered and surrounded but what frustrates me personally is that every single peasant ripostes like a god, which requires you to do the same and renders combos obsolete, since you never get more than two strikes into your opponent without him masterstriking you.

I get that they didn´t want the game to become too easy bit it feels like every bandit received a knight combat training from bernard lol.

Well.... Its not likely that you will be able to run away from a 1v5 gang. The only thing that keeps you from dying in real life because of that is that the gang do not actually want to kill you.
