Is this really worth it?
I'm just at the beginning, i fought the guy who owes money to my father, and i gotta say im really unimpressed. So far all i've seen is a thousand cutscenes and the worst combat system i've ever dealt with. Does this ever pick up or is this what im dealing with? I can still refund it.

You're still in the prologue, basically the tutorial. A long tutorial. Once you have finished it you will have a lot more freedom.
I don't think the combat is bad, it's just that because you have just started you are bad at it, both you and Henry. It's not a system you can just hack away and win. Although by the time you have finished the prologue you will most likely be passed the refund stage.

Just so you know that first quest has a lot of different ways to complete it. That is what I like about it as well. Many ways to complete most quests.

Exactly, so i'm not sure if i want to finish and see if it's worth keeping if perhaps the game just isn't my thing. It probably is that i'm just bad at combat, but the cutscenes truly are unbearable. And the first time i skip them im asked to make a decision based on the information learned in the cutscene.

Keep in mind, this is NOT a game where you can immediately fight effectively as if you were some superhuman. You are the son of a blacksmith who has no fight training and you fight like it. You have to learn how to fight and use the weapons.

You get to the point where you are overpowered and unstoppable just like other games, but this time you feel like you earned it as you had to train and learn to get there.

As for cutscenes, why don't you like those? However, after the tutorial, which you are in, they get seriously cut down.

Why would you skip a cutscene you haven't seen before? I don't think RPGs are your thing if you don't care about story.

Also, when I say you learn, Henry himself learns as well. As in, he becomes faster, does more damage and gets better at blocking.

I do like rpgs, i'm just not enjoying how this one is presenting itself. The first thing it does is try to fill me in on the vague political happenings of this medieval world. Should i be a history buff to enjoy this? Cause history isn't really my thing. The story i've encountered so far is boring. Which brings me back to my first point, i don't know if i should waste my refund by seeing if im into it, if the things i don't like about it this far don't change.
Demon of Razgriz Dec 23, 2019 @ 6:44pm
No, you don't have to be a history buff, I am not. Just know the land is currently in dispute between 2 kings, one is the rightful but crappy one and the other is a more effective, but ruthless one.

However, I am not going to be able to tell you if you should continue or not. I like this game and it is a singleplayer game so it makes no difference to me if you don't play or not.

It is up to you.

I was in doubt as you. The long cutscenes almost made me ask refund too. Then I gave a chance, started advance in story. So far being a great game. Have a part in game you have more freedom to do the side quests or just explore.

Still lots of grind in the game, but it makes it realistic, since the main character dont had any experience in battles, but its getting better.

Exactly, why the hell would you want to make a comprehensive combat system that would be easy to learn and doesn’t take a 15 step tutorial that literally takes hours to learn and even after you finally get the hang of it they through you into a 5v1 fight that you can’t possibly win until you get so frustrated for being stuck for two hours not able to progress the story line you just delete the game? Why wouldn’t people like this game?

I will admit it’s like a heroin addiction, that you decide to come back after a couple of days and try different ways until you finally crack the stupid wall that’s been blocking your path but why make a game so frustrating where you can’t even be moderately effective till you’re at the three quarters mark of the main story? And if you try to disengage the bamston decides he doesn’t want to run and turns around to get stabbed in the face or your horse decides this is a good time to take up prancing and just yeets you off it’s back, just in time for those five thugs you have to fight to all stab you at the same time finishing you off no matter how thick your armor is or how many times you’ve been in the fighting pit with captain uppity pants?

Mr. H. Jass, if you are expecting this game to be "like Skyrim", i fear you will be disappointed.

You can never really be over-powered in KCD - for example, a top level character in full plate armor can still be beat to death if he becomes surrrounded by 5 peasants (dressed in rags) with sticks. Sort of stupid, but there it is. Your opponents level, and can always be challenging if you aren't smart or willing to try a few different ways to deal with them.

The real gem to this game is the Story writing and "Role Playing", as in character immersion and becoming Henry and crafting Henry into what you want him to be. The writing and choices, and NPC responses to Henry is what really shines (making this a different sort of RPG).

The graphics are actually quite horrible for 2018 - not sure what others are playing to say they are great, but they are on par with Skyrim (on Ultra Graphics, c2012?) and Witcher 3 - probably mainly due to the the poor graphics optimization of KCD.

The stealth system is pretty cool, but quirky - they completely pooched the "Stealth Kill" system since you lose reputation even if you are not seen, but you can steal from someones house and never get in trouble even though they see you leave. (you can only get "caught in the act" as in most games).

The prologue/tutorial is pretty bland and stupid, until you realize that fighting Kunesh is not your best option, then it becomes a bit more fun. But only a bit.

If you are looking for the Glory heaped upon the character in games like Skyrim - "DragonBorn" and all that - well, i suspect you will continue to be disappointed. Henry is a peasant. That's all.

How Henry deals with the problems he faces is up to you though, for the most part. And while you can learn the combat system to the point where 1 v 1 is actually fun (and 1 v 2 is manageable), but 1 v 5 always ends with your face in the dust unless you accept the challenge and approach the situation in a very clear and calculated way - controlling you battle space.

This game sounds ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful. If the best thing you can say about this game is the bland King vs King story, then i was right to have refunded it.
